The lights are on
(This review is intended as a supplemental, and short, review to the already stellar review written by Mr. Turi)
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows does a great job by starting you near the end of the tale, and pulls you in to it by then rewinding to the "beginning of the tale". It's a great story-telling device, and they use it rather well. They also did a great by teasing you with all the great moves and combo's you will eventually unlock.
Yes, this is WAY better than the recent movies of the same name. And yes, it does service the fans of the franchise amicably. And yes, it follows some of the formulaic necessities for a 3rd person shooter (solid weapons, dependable partner AI, etc.) And yes, it even innovates in a few ways (love the cooldown and energon abilities, as well as the ability to transform at will). But in some areas, this game just doesn't quite come up to snuff with the industry's best. Simple issues like finding cover and firing from said cover cropped up. Your AI controlled partners can do it. I watched Megatron and Soundwave find, and fire from, cover in a hallway crowded with Autobots and laser fire. Watching that, I wondered what tutorial they had read, b/c cover mechanics were left out of mine!
