My name is Scott, but I go by General Grende or Nightmare on most internet sites. The "GW" in my name is for Guild Wars, which is possibly my favorite game ever. The Nightmare is for the character from Soul Calibur.
My occupation is working with youth, my degree was in Professional Writing & Journalism.
But my passions are writing and gaming.
I used to be a writer and editor for gaming website ResumePlay, I've also worked with BitPunch, ThatGamingSite, and Examiner Games. ResumePlay was by far my favorite, and I'll always remember that group fondly. But there is something about the GI community that keeps me coming here for my news, and something about the GI User Blog system that I return to as well.
I'm also a novelist, though I'm too much of a perfectionist to have published anything yet (I keep tweaking and rewriting my finished pieces). My main fantasy series is a project I've been working on since 2006, I've written about 1,000 pages for the series including the entire first draft of book 1, a shorter side-story novel, a multi-chapter history book, a fourteen page character glossary, and more.
I've also got a newer series that is much closer to being ready to publish. It follows an antihero on a quest for vengeance, who enlists the aid of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse and many other mythical and powerful beings. The series is set 2,000 years after the "end of the world," though the book's conflicts are a testament to the fact that the nothing really ended.
I'd also like to work in the game industry as a game designer or game writer. GI would be a dream job, since it's the best magazine in the industry and it's 20 minutes from where I live. I've done some amateur game development with college associates, as well as some more serious game development as part of our college development team.
Message me on Xbox if you want to play any shooters or co-op games (gamertag is GeneralGrende), or on GIO if you just want to chat.
