The lights are on
Yes. Game Informer is hiring. But before you run to send me your résumé and tell me all the awesome things you know, please be aware of a few things: More
I often witness first-hand the strange fascination gamers have with defending a game or system with zealous enthusiasm - as if it's impossible to like both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. It is easy to admire the passion and excitement gamers have for the medium, but at the same time these juvenile arguments are no better than "my dad is stronger than your dad." They are as interesting and engaging as watching a battery recharge. More
When we relaunched gameinformer.com back on October 1, 2009, it felt like I was staring into the abyss. Who or what would be there looking back at me after launch? More
Just yesterday I was contacted by Matthew Lee Johnston of PopCap who was gracious enough to thank me for my interest in the story of Owain Weinert and Allied Star Police. If you didn't read my Letter from the Editor in the February issue, I highly recommend you check it out, as I declared Owain and PopCap's touching tale to be the best of 2011. More
I gave my brother a kidney, so just try and sue me for being late! Here is my backlog of "Letter from the Editor" from the last three issues in one handy blog post!
The complete set of Game Informer covers for 2011 is done, so I'm looking for your feedback on which cover you thought was the best. You can see all our covers in our fancy cover gallery located here if you want to take a closer look. I have a hard time picking just one. The Tomb Raider render was simply amazing. Darksiders 2 by Joe Mad was exquisite. Victor Antonov's work never fails to amaze me and he delivered with our sublime Dishonored cover. Then there is Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Mass Effect 3, Borderlands 2...the list goes on and on. More
I love animals. I think they are great. I'm not for cruelty to animals either, but this press release and the game itself are just dumb and an insult to gamers everywhere. I hope Nintendo sues them. More
Today is a weird day for me. In my 20 plus years of working at Game Informer I have never really been disconnected from the office like I will be over the next month. More
Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. It seems to me the video game industry just never wants to learn. We still have summers go by with the movie industry dropping some of its biggest films of the year, yet video games continue to putter along convinced that if you don't release games in a three-week period starting at the end of October and ending in the middle of November your game is doomed. In case you missed it, last weekend Game Informer ran its first ever community ride dubbed "Tour De GI." We had nine adventurous readers show up for the planned 27 mile ride, GI editors Dan Ryckert and Ben Hanson (though Hanson was late and joined us at Minnehaha Creek because he apparently doesn't know how to work an alarm), two friends of GI, and myself. More
UPDATE: Looks like we are going to have some great weather, but I wanted to remind everyone while we have two groups going, 27 miles is no joke and takes a certain level of training and fitness (not a ton, but we don't want people dying or hurting themselves). So remember this event is all about having fun, being safe, and hanging out while we ride our bikes. Remember, be here at 8:45 AM for sign-up and emergency numbers because we leave no later than 9:15 AM.
ORIGINAL STORY: A number of the Game Informer team started bike riding in the last year, so I figured it was time to put together a GI Ride and invite our community along. More
