Sure, you say it can be upgraded later in the game - but just how much? And how long before you can do so? The reason it's so important is that it can be fundamental to the balance and gameplay of X-Com. The devs themselves acknowledge that one of X-Com's highlights was the fear instilled in the player by the lethality of combat. That plasma bolt coming out of nowhere when you round a corner. That Chryssalid closing in without warning and turning two guys into zombies. That alien grenade decimating Fireteam-2. That primed grenade you were planning to hurl into the UFO next turn backfiring on you as its wielder perishes. That Cyberdisk taking heavy fire from four guys and a tank, only to emerge unscathed and kill you with its reaction fire. That SECOND Cyberdisk popping up right after you finally finished off that one. Could that be replicated when you are limited to four guys (for a significant part of the game)? It sounds doubtful. Can you imagine playing a terror mission in the original with such a small force? The apparent implication is that no - you can't - and thus, instead of casualties mounting at a rate of 3 per mission, you will only use up a single bodybag every 3 missions. On top of that, it seems that with each one troop being manually leveled by the player, it's less likely for the game to be balanced around frequent depths. Life was cheap in X-Com. We really, really hope it stays cheap in XCom. :)

Hello Adam, I hope you can comment on an issue that troubles many veterans of the hyphenated game - the squad size.
