It was going to be his way of getting another pay check if Ep. IV flopped, which it didn't (but we also missed on the possibility of an entirely different Star Wars universe). I'm glad we were able to get the book, because it is filled with lively characters and an amazing setting... plus Vader rocked the darkside in that book.
