Firstly, the name. DARUIMONKEY takes my favourite character from the Naruto manga, and one of my favourite Japanes adjectives, and it is in part a tribute to a friend of mine. The friend's name is SPONGEMONKEY and in my circle of friends, we take the mick of him for playing too much Xbox. Darui, for those who know manga and/or Japanese. 'Darui' means dull, or listless, and is the name of the Raikage's right hand man in Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto manga series, which is a classic for any lover of Japanese culture. Ergo, DARUIMONKEY.
I enjoyed gaming from a young age, you know, board games and the like. I played Pokemon Silver/Gold on a friend's Game Boy. My first experience with mainstream games was when I met a boy who was my age at a pub in Wiltshire and experience what I think was a late game Gym Battle on Pokemon Blue. After this I pestered my parents to buy me a GBA and Pokemon Ruby, which I bought upon release. Since then, I was always a handheld gamer. I got a PS2 at Christmas in 2004, which was my very first home console, but I was limited to Looney Tunes games and FIFA/LMA. I bought a Wii, full price after waiting about 2 months because of the stock delays. I purchased my 360 in 2010 and bought MW2 shortly afterwards. Since then I have been hooked on the FPS genre, and epic, beautifully detailed single player Campaigns. (ME2,RDR). I am currently planning on buying a PS3 at some point but I'm just waiting for the right game to pique my interest.
I have enjoyed superhero movies for a long while, but only recently have I started buying actual comic book singles. My favourite character is Deadpool, though I am partial to The Flash and Batman. I have a few TPBs, but I prefer the here and now you get with singles. I also enjoy Judge Dredd (Probably because he reminds me of my father (lawyer) who also enjoys Dredd) To answer another set of comic book questions, DC beats Marvel for arcs and stories, but Marvel for Character Design and iconic status. Scott Snyder and Daniel Way are tied for the position of my favourite writer, and Jock is my favourite artist (Detective FTW). And to conclude, Nightcrawler is my favourite X-Man. I also enjoy anime and manga, having, like many British children, grown up watching animes without knowing what they were, like Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon. My current favourite anime series are Bleach and Eden of the East.
I recently relapsed into wrestling again. When I was younger I watched the WWE, but now I'm more of a TNA fan. I love the wrestlers on TNA, but hate the way that they are used. Samoa Joe and RVD are just two examples of potential main eventers that are stuck wrestling halfway down the card. I also enjoy watching the occasional AAA or NJPW match, mainly for either the gimmicks or the technical wrestling style. I have also started to watch Deathmatches from BJW. Stuff like the Yokohama Amazon River deathmatch, which was insane. My favourite PPV has to be ECW One Night Stand 2006, purely because of the atmosphere, and when Cena couldn't throw his shirt to the fans. mY favourite match type is Hell in a Cell, purely for the scarcity and brutality of the contest.
I also enjoy Mixed Martial Arts and Boxing. If I were to name a favourite boxer it would be David Haye. Retired now, but he could probably kick an arse or two still. Especially Audley Harrison's. Just think, if he ever returns to the ring the commentators are going to have a field day with him "waltzing" around the ring. I also enjoy watching Mike Tyson highlights. He wasn't my generation but I get goosebumps watching him even now. In MMA my attention is equally divided between the UFC and Strikeforce. I am very opinionated when it comes to combat sports, and my opinion is that Anderson Silva is the greatest thing ever to happen to the world of MMA, Lesnar will regain the UFC Heavyweight Championship, and he will lose it to Fedor on the Russian's UFC debut. By KO. At 0:38 of round 3.
I am also a huge fan of football, or "soccer" to the majority of you I guess. I support Nottingham Forest, a second division team. I enjoy the atmosphere of games and our songs. ("You've Lost that Loving Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers and "Mull of Kintyre" by Sir Paul McCartney)
