I am currently a Journalism major with a minor in Japanese at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. My earliest memory of video games comes from when I was probably 2 years old and my older brother let me "control" his white mage on Final Fantasy. My parents were pretty strict and wouldn't let my brothers and I play video games on school nights, but they were in a bowling league that met every Wednesday so we were able to cram a few hours in during the week. My parents also taught us the value of a dollar by making the SNES the last console they were going to buy for us. Thus, in the summer of '96 we struck a deal with one of our Father's military buddies in which we ould trade our precious NES and SNES(and all of our games) for the retail price of Nintendo's brand new N64. In my opinion, it was probably the worst trade ever, but being the youngest I had relatively no say. As the years went on we became much more lucrative in our assets and attained most of the consoles available. Now I live with my girlfriend and we have all of the current gen consoles with most of the retro platforms in storage.
