The lights are on
Minecraft has been a huge part of my hobby for playing video games lately, and by lately I mean the past two years. I've spent dozens upon dozens of hours building my fortress of solitude, raising farms of melons and wheat, travelling to the depths of the Nether, and plotting my procedural tactics for defeating an Endermen. Minecraft has helped me to flesh out my creative self more than any other game; from building fancy statues to crafting my home into a work of art from what used to be a hollow mountain. Since the game has been officially released, I've found even more ways to spend time with it, like going outside at night to kill tons of hordes of spiders and skeletons so I could spend my hard earned XP on enchanting and leveling up my weapons and armor. And the list of distractions are endless; roaming into a near-endless mine-shaft in hopes of finding treasure to just exploring the massive randomly generated world.
Hey everyone, I've been occupied lately with many, many things, but I wanted to post to my blog to let myself be heard. As of the writing of this blog, it is Christmas Eve 2011, and, well I just felt the urge to write something, and I wanted to talk about an aspect I've been trying to fit into my little portion of reality; its the notion of giving more and expecting less, and being happier with what you have than being happy with something and wanting more afterwards.
I've been thinking about the notion of time, lately. How we spend our time and how we use it for the better part of ourselves and part of our enjoyment of life. Now don't think this is some kind of documentary about how time is a never-ending tube that runs through the universe or something, I just wanted to talk about a relatively large idea: Do you enjoy your time playing video games, or are you just setting yourself up for disappointment? Are video games a part of your entertainment and fulfillment, or is it just trying to get the highest score on a 1,000 player leaderboard?
In the last month I've been working on a problem of mine; whether to go out right now and buy a 3DS, or wait and buy an NGP. With a good amount of cash saved up under my belt and a mind that really takes in the little things as important facts for decisions, I have finally started the debate of which system I should choose for gaming on-the-go. If your having a similar problem and can't make up your mind, maybe the facts I've learned can help you decide on what to spend your money on.
