  • I had a weird dream...

    2

about there being an obscure series of mystery comedy films staring Michael C. Hall, Steve Martin, and someone who was either Cedric the entertainer, Sinbad, or Berny Mac, or maybe it was all three, I just know it was weird, and was like a "flashback" from a gameshow being hosted by Steve Martin in a david letterman style format, whoever the funny african american actor my (apparently) racist subconscious was thinking of was getting interviewed/questioned about the four movies (each had a different name and one of the posters had the group riding in a bicycle race that morphed into a tabogan, and then into a race through china town, Michael C. Hall also didn't look like Michael C. Hall more of a cross between James Franco and Kevin Costner, I think part of the plot was inspired (obviously) by Dexter, as it followed Michael C.Hall as a Botanist who owns a small shop and is fascinated by death, then ironically his wife is killed, and he somehow stumbles into a mystery involving a serial killer, and meets up with Steve Martin and the funny black guy who I guess are two private eyes... the dream ended with me getting hit by a taxi, I guess I was the bad guy of the movie when that happened, then I was watching the movie, Steve Martin also says "they aren't very good" after asking the funny black guy his question (with the black guy not recalling ever making the films)

  • The Best Comic Book Writer You've (Probably) Never Heard Of!

Even if you aren't a fan of comic books you should know who Mark Millar is, you just should, considering you've probably heard of or seen movies based on his work! This Scottish comic book writer helped shape the basis for many of the Marvel films (x-men series, and the upcoming Avengers film) he's the reason Samuel L. Jackson was in Iron Man 2! He's also the reason we got Iron Monger as the main villain in the first Iron Man film! Let me elaborate, Millar worked on the Ultimate line of books for marvel, writing Ultimate X-men and the Ultimates (which was made into the two direct to DVD films ultimate avengers 1 and 2) in Ultimates Millar got Samuel L. Jackson's permission to use his likeness for Nick Fury (head of SHIELD, a government run agency for special operations and espionage) which is why Marvel stuck with the idea for its film universe, among other things Millar has also written the comic book Wanted, which was made into a film loosely based on the comic. He also wrote a little comic that MIllar personally dubbed "the most violent comic book of all time" not sure about that, but it's certainly pretty violent, Kick-ass was Millar's hugely successful send-up to the classic super hero formula.

  • How it Should've Ended #1: No Country For Old Men

    11

*SPOILER WARNING*Hello and welcome to "How it should've ended" a new blog series in which I'll take a movie that had an ending that was lacking in some way, and throw out how I think they could've improved the ending, you may not agree with me on well, most of my points as seems to be a common occurence for me on GIO, but it's cool just use the comments to call me an idiot or whatever you want and I'll do my best to explain my feelings more in detail. Lastly, this Blog is meant to be more lighthearted than most of my rage filled rants, so please don't take too much of it seriously as it's all in good fun, and if you want to suggest your own ending, well use the comments, that's what they're there for. Now let's get started:

Well, here we are with another list, I was thinking about something that would be neat and that you don't see a lot of, then it popped into my head: headcrabs are cool, but why are half-life's alien buggers so cool? Well, because they're freaky as **** so I thought, why not a list of other freaky enemies and/or moments that make you want to crap yourself. So here it is, my top ten freakiest:

Specifically David Fincher and Christopher Nolan, two widely renowned and beloved filmmakers who never fail to bug the hell out of me. It's not so much their films, or their directorial approach, it's really more little things that are somewhat consistent with their films, but as we all know, the devil is in the details...

This could very well get me banned, and if it does I'll be very upset, as this being my personal blog, shouldn't be under scrutiny, unless the moderators have become twisted into a group of tyrants who strive to beat the right to free speech into a pulp and throw it's bloody corpse down a river. This post was inspired by the recent perma-banning of Brett Hicks and Night, two members of GI.com who had been here since before me, now Brett obviously had a penchant for bursting into threads and throwing out stupid random comments, but then shouldn't that be his right? By no means is making an ass out of yourself a bad thing, and it seems that Brett's ban was caused by his pissing off the wrong people one too many times, I recently had a bit of a feud with the moderator smackey over a thread I started about my hatred for a character from fable 2 (reaver). It has occurred to me that if a moderator likes you, or if you've been a member since the old site, they'll let you put out moronic posts like "the adventures of toast man" the point I'm getting at, is that a moderator can essentially be a huge jerk, and their actions will inevitably be justified, believe me, complaining doesn't help, nothing helps. The moderators can look down on us and do whatever they want, whether it's snipping our comments into insults, or banning us, or just making our time on this site a living hell. This isn't fun for anybody, I like this site, and I like arguing in forums, I don't want to have to be careful when defending my opinion that I don't piss off the wrong people.

  • Kick-ass may turn away comic fans

    13 1

This is a real quick post (sorta) I just saw Mathew Vaughn's(Stardust, Layer Cake) Kick-ass based on the comic book by Mark Millar (writer of Wanted!) and John Romita Jr. Now this movie essentially defaces it's source material, changing key plot points and altering the ending almost dramatically (Jetpack with Gatling guns? I wanted kick-ass not the fucking rocketeer!). So it's definitely going to piss off alot of fans of the comics (myself included), But those of you who have read and enjoyed the phenomenal comic shouldn't be deterred, yes it destroys necessary elements of the rich, break-neck, tongue in cheek violence-a-thon that was the comic, but I say, go in with your head held high, forget all knowledge you have of the comic and watch a viciously unique film that fuses a bizarre surreality with sickening violence, and you might just enjoy Kick-ass. Don't go in to this movie thinking it does the comic justice, because it doesn't, it does however take Millars fantastically off the wall ideas and blend them into a genuinely good film, it's not great, and my opinion is somewhat biased having read the comic before-hand, but this is still another solid entry in Vaughn's bizarre filmography

  • Movies, comic books, and a passionate fan of both who's had enough

    1

Hello! I'm the person the title refferred to in case you couldn't guess, and I'm sad, sad about the state things I used to enjoy have gotten into, or in movies case, haven't gotten into, okay thats actually what this is about, movies and television no matter how hard they seem to try can't make me feel the same way comic books and books in general can, Films entertain me obviously, I wouldn't love them if that weren't the case, but they lack... something, I don't know why but when I read a comic (usually by a good writer, like Paul Jenkins, Robert Kirkman, or Mark Millar each writers whose works you owe it to yourself to read) I'm transported to another world, where I feel genuinely attached to the characters who inhabit the imaginary world, I don't  know why I feel so detached watching films (there are some exceptions, UP, Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind, and the indie movies Princess, ink, and Lo) and when films do seem to line everything up perfectly, and create something I genuinely enjoy, I'm never brought to tears (except for the ending to eternal sunshine of the spotless mind) I never feel the welling up of emotions in my stomach, and I wonder why films fail to do this so well, I mean the building blocks are basically outlined for them in text right there on the page, why can't someone point at a book and tell the director "this is what I want to feel watching this movie, nothing else will do" I dunno, I'm really just ranting here while coming to accepting that film will never surpass the written word in all it's glorious forms
