  • The Halfway Point and What Comes Next

    1

We are just about at the halfway point for 2017. This year has been crazy so far. I can't remember a year that delivered more big games in the first 6 months than this one. We've had huge hits like a brand new, open world Zelda, a brand new IP in Horizon, a return to greatness in the JRPG category from Persona, and a slew of other hits like Mass Effect, Halo Wars 2, Prey, Injustice 2, For Honor, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Resident Evil 7...the list goes on. We've even had a few sleeper hits like Nioh, Gravity Rush 2, Nier Automata, 2 new Sniper games, 2 Kingdom Hearts remasters...I mean it's been ridiculous. Now that I've had some time to catch my breath and start getting into some new games again I thought I should review where gaming has taken me this year so far.

Ten days. In a mere ten days we will be treated to one of the greatest revivals in recent gaming memory. It's been seven long years since a Crash game was released (no, I do not count Skylanders at all), and it's been nine years since a core Crash game was released. Now I realize that a remaster may not be considered a true revival, but for me this comeback means a lot.

We all have our favorites when it comes to gaming. There is no right or wrong answer for what draws us to a brand. Perhaps it's nostalgia. Or maybe we got burned by a different company. Or maybe there are a few exclusives that pull us in. It could even be something as simple as "It's the system all my friends have." Whatever your reason is, just remember it is your reason and yours alone.

  • Accel World VS Sword Art Online: Virtual Worlds Collide!

    1

As someone who typically hates downloading games I really hate when a game I'm interested in is only available digitally, but when an exception must be made I will do what I have to do. In this case the game I am eagerly awaiting is Accel World VS Sword Art Online.

  • A Quick Overwatch Rant: Can't Stop Won't Stop

Here we are, more than a year later, and I am still, STILL, playing Overwatch. I didn't even want the game to begin with, but I was sucked in by peer pressure and here I am at 62 hours of total play time. I've even payed for DLC loot boxes because I NEED those event skins!!!

  • Is It Still Fun?

    1

Nostalgia is a vicious beast. Often times when it rears its ugly head we become so compelled by something we once loved that we would do anything to experience that love again. Unfortunately this can seriously backfire. So what games are capable of withstanding the passage of time and what games are best left buried in the past?

  • Dark Souls Table Top: A Quick Recap

    1

Before diving deep into my first experience with my recently acquired Dark Souls Board Game, I feel it may be important to talk about my own experience with table top games. I have next to none. The most complicated board game I have played prior to DSBG would probably be Monopoly or Life. I used to play Magic The Gathering and I feel like that certainly helped a bit, but beyond that I consider myself a complete novice. Now that we've established my complete lack of experience we can begin our journey through what was a 7 hour affair that ultimately ended with the death of Ornstein and Smough!

Let me ask you something. If you were reading a really good book for the first time but when you got to the last chapter you were told you have to start from the beginning, read all the way back to the last chapter, and THEN you could finish, would you still read the book? Lucky for us books have no restrictions. I can read a book start to finish and never have to worry about losing my place. I can use a bookmark, fold the corner of a page, or even mark the page number down in my phone. I can also read a book starting from the middle, read the last chapter first, or skip around randomly if I was so inclined. In fact most forms of media are set up this way. Books, music, and movies can all be viewed in any order you wish. So why not games?
