Kinda in a similar boat. Kingdoms of Amalur is great. It has some minor issues, but overall I really like it. I've spent over 20 hours on it so far (way too much time for what I have going on, but oh well) and I think that the GI review was a bit too harsh on it. The game is great fun right from the start and you can play it in whatever way your really want to tackle it. Visually it looks a bit dated at times (probably because they started making it as an MMO), but the visuals are nothing to really complain about.
