  • 31/31 day 6 the villain is the most important character.

    2

Yeah, I just said that! Come at me bro! But in all seriousness, a good, strong villain is one of if not the most important character of any video game. Without somebody like Handsome Jack, or the Joker, who not only is the main antagonist but helps to define the game itself, a game just isn't quite as good. Okay, imagine this: Batman without Joker.

  • 31/31 day 5 Setting is everything.

    1

Games are made up of many things: gamelay, story, graphics, audio. Thing is, one major part of any game is often overlooked: the setting. This is what helps to define a game beyond its genre. Fallout 3 and Skyrim are two very similar games, in terms of gameplay, made by the same devs, yet could not be more different. In one, the world is a magical snowy land populated by dragons and other monsters. The other is a bleak, desolate world in which very survival is difficult, the air water and land are irradiated, and bandits and mutated beasts stalk the shadows. These two games feel entirely different and appeal to different people.

I am a major fan of racing games, especially the NFS series. Now, as we are approaching the arrival of a new generation of consoles and with that a new generation of game engines, I expect that we will be seeing some changes to the racing genre.

  • 31/31 Day 2. Let me introduce myself.

    8 3

"Let me introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste." Well, not really. As a 16 year old I'm not a man, I'm by no means wealthy, and as for taste, well, lets just leave it at I am a fan of bright pink, slammed cars. But, Sympathy for the Devil aside, it's time for me to introduce myself to the GIO community. Given that I am now embarking upon 31/31, this seems like the perfect time to start.

  • Bioshock Infinite, what we know so far Pt. 2 The Gameplay

    2

Bioshock has always been about letting the player play how they want to, within reason. These games hand you a variety of weapons, Plasmids, and tonics, as well as other customization options such as Power to the People stations. However, it appears that this is set to change in Bioshock: Infinite.

  • Why video games are better than film or book

    12

Very often, people will talk about movies or books having important life lessons or messages that everyone should learn. Yet, no one says this about video games. However, in my opinion, video games are far better at spreading ideas and making people think, ask questions, and look at the world in a new way than any other form of media.

  • Evolve, create, explore

We are at a high point in gaming with the release of so many great games in 2011 and the promised release of even more amazing games. Graphics quality is soaring, stories are becoming even more involved, and characters seem ever more like real people. During 2011 we said goodbye to some old favorites and hello to some new friends, as well as gave some of the oldest and greatest games around a new look in the form of HD remakes. 2012 looks like its going to be a year full of new things. I am hoping that with the new games coming out in 2012 we will see an increase in three things: evolution, creation, and exploration.
