The lights are on
This blog entry is my reaction to this story:
In all my years of gaming, I've never been big into RPG's. I love customization, and the ability to enhance your character in different skill sets sounded great in theory, but I always found the practice boring as hell. Really, what's so fascinating about a game where all you do is walk around, kill stuff ad nauseum, level up and collect crap. I understood the why people did it, but I just couldn't get into it myself. I needed something with more action and a better story (or at least one where the fate of the world doesn't rest on the shoulders of some late teens boy). I really saw no point to it all. I've always said that if a game like Gears or War or L4D could incorporate some RPG-like elements (like increasing shot damage and such), those games would be nearly perfect because we'd be able to customize how we get to play the game while still retaining all the action they deliver.
