    ***EDIT 04/28/10***

Thank you everyone for sharing your opinions.  I'd like to add a little disclaimer to this post.
     - I am not upset with DICE for not having released brand spanking new content this short after release.  I have worked in the game industry since Nov 2005 and know full well just how busy studios are after releasing a game; especially one so focused on multiplayer.
     - To sum up this post in brief, I feel that unlocking content to users that is already on the disc should not count as DLC.  There are lots of players without the VIP code and to charge them 1200 msp to access content they already own isn't fair.

    ***Original post***

First off I'd like to express my distaste, as a consumer over the VIP addition.  Before the game launched I was under the impression that everything a VIP had at day one would be available after 1 month.  It's almost May and there are still Maps that are locked to generic users.  What irritates me is these maps/modes are on the disc already.  If you didn't buy a Limited Edition copy, that will be 1200 msp please.  1200, wow.

Now DICE is offering new outfits for our soldiers.  I can't imagine a camouflage skin on an m16 giving us a 'visual edge'; as the advertisements claim.  In Europe players can fork over 440 msp for all the skins or 120 msp for 1.  Here in the states we have to drink copious amounts of Dr. Pepper to collect codes.  Any one see the episode of Futurama where Frye tries finding the golden bottle cap in cans of slurm?

My point is, none of it seems worth it to me.  Being able to play every map and mode was worth it to me that's why I hunted down a limited edition copy.  But if I hadn't found one, no way would I pay 15 bucks for content already in the game.  And last I checked most of us military FPS fans aren't into playing dress up.  We want NEW maps; emphasis on new.  New weapons, game modes and anything with game play substance attached to it.

What are you're impressions of the Battlefield Bad Company 2 DLC?  What would you pay for?

  • Weapons, I'm always willing to pay for them, always.

  • They're coming out with 2 new VIP items... map pack 3 (Laguna Alta Squad Rush and Nelson Bay Squad Deathmatch), and from what I'm heard they're pretty heavily considering a classic map pack with great maps like Strike at Karkand (BF2) and Lost Village (BF 1943 Mod Desert Combat). If you look on the store page, there's A LOT of planned DLC and I'm guessing some of it has to do with weapons/gadgets.

Really, the point of the SPECACT DLC is the Awards and Trophies (Achievements for 360). A lot of people have already gotten the Platinum Trophy (1000 Gamerscore) and at least the majority of awards. That, at least, is why I'm excited for it.

By the way, you didn't need a limited edition copy of the game for the VIP code, just a new copy.

  • i want more gun mods, different sights, effects , etc. also new vehicles would be cool or maybe a couple new game modes. but as spoony said they have a lot of DLC on the way so im just gonna sit here and be patient.

    ....there is no spoon....

  • They already said their DLC will come out as the community wants it.  Lately, it's been maps if you go on the forums.  Now, note, there was a official thread made by EA asking what weapons they would want and it's being considered.  But for the time being, if the community wants maps more, then that's what they'll get.

Also, the dr.pepper codes, copious amounts?  Exaggerating much?  It's 4 bottles.  Also, you can send a letter to dr pepper asking for the codes for free.  If that's an issue I know of a few threads with the universal codes for all EA DLC from Dr.Pepper.  So if anyone needs that I'll make a thread and post it.

Either way, the VIP will be worth it.  Why not so much DLC?  Well hell, they've spent the last month doing tweaks, which the community wanted.  So for the moment, I have no issues with the DLC, I believe Laguna Presa Rush was a great idea.  Also Arica Harbor conquest was good too.  But at the moment, I want that M60 nerfed.  I'm sick of being killed in 2 shots from 100 meters away, not even all snipers can do that.

  • @ Anthony

They did nerf the M60, it may not look that way but it takes about 4-6 bullets to kill someone instead of two in the past.

And yeah new maps would be great, been on the official BC2 website and a lot of people are asking for Panama Canal or Atacama Desert. Both are very good maps that I wouldn't mind having, although some BF2 or BC1 maps would be very nice.

  • They didn't yet, they did for the PC.  They're testing tweaks on the PC right now.  Soon we'll get them.

     - And this is what I was talking about.  They are not coming out with a map pack 3.  They are merely giving you permission to play a game mode on maps you already paid for.
     - As for the standard copies of the game coming with the VIP code, if that’s true then I don't know what makes the limited edition special.  Gamestop, Play n Trade, Best Buy and my friends who purchased day one led me to believe I needed a Limited Edition of the game in order to get a VIP code.  I'm sure you are right but now I'm just wondering what makes the limited edition special.  I could have saved a gallon of gas driving around North Seattle if I only needed a standard edition.

    @ Anthony Sacco
     - I didn't know it only took 4 bottles of Dr Pepper.  I assumed you had to drink and drink until you got a code for each kit.  If there is a website for getting codes without having to pay or drink the Doctor please do share it.
     - Just to reiterate what I said the above disclaimer, I understand fully why there is no new DLC content.  I am willing to wait patiently for DLC that is worth it.  I just don't like having what I paid for withheld from me and having it be called NEW or DLC.

    Rock on!

  • I need Dr Pepper codes...

  • yea, me too....

    ....there is no spoon....

  • I shall post the thread then.

  • The Limited Edition is special because you get unlocks before you even unlock them... if that makes sense.

It looks like now they're coming out with 2 more VIP items... just stacking this stuff up on us.

The amount of DLC they've released is at least a lot better than MW2 $15 for 3 new maps and it took nearly 5 months to make them?

Does anyone know when the SPECACT DLC is coming to the PS3?

  • And now I regret buying the limited edition, because I can easily get those unlocks in a few hours.  The only thing that I liked about it was the VIP code.

Ah ha!   See I rented the game for 3 weeks before I purchased it.  So by then I had unlocked that stuff on my own.  It's all coming together now.

  • Also, hence why the limited edition didn't cost more.  It's funny because I still see Limited Editions at best buy.
