What's Happening

The Official Mass Effect Group

Mass Effect was one of the most action-packed space odysseys we've ever experienced, and it has at least two sequels that look to up that ante in nearly every way. Whether you are new to the universe or an experienced explorer, feel free to pull up a chair

  • Here is the crew that worked on Insanity. I suggest having Squad Warp Ammo with Shepard.

My crew (throughout the ship): Morinth (Throw is a life saver against the Husks) and Grunt (have Squad Incendiary Ammo)

My crew (for final boss): Thane (Snipers FTW against The Baby, and Warp for The Collectors that attack) and Grunt (because he just won't die)

2nd crew leader: Garrus both times

    Tech: Legion

    Biotic: Jack

Sent back with the crew: Mordin (always. I had it happen where he randomly died the first time I beat the game, so after that I send him back every time)

And I think the leader of the second team always gets shot, Garrus did and someone mentioned that Miranda did. If they are loyal, they survive that shot, if not, they don't.

If you bred HK-47, Shale, Chai Ka and Wrex, the gaming world would explode from sheer badassery.

  • And if you're still having issues after trying all of these options... guess you'll be playing through again : /

  • Yah... I saw Miranda get shot when she was loyal my second playthrough (when I was aiming for the NLB achievement) and I was like "OH HELL NO!!" and then she got up and was all... "I'm fine shepard." Made me respect her just a little bit... but then Garrus did the same thing in my third playthrough and I was like... "Oh. Bioware just wants me to sh*t my pants for a few seconds. Not cool."

First time I played it... I had Zaeed lead the second fire time... when he died and said, "I figured it would end something like this..." It was so perfect for the game playthrough I'd had with my main shep... that I didn't even care that I'd lost someone. It made sense for someone to die and the fact that he and I hadn't really talked much and that we were kinda cut from the same "don't give a sh*t" mold... it really just rang true. Oh well... just rambling now.

  • thnx for the advice guys I'm gonna try some of these and see what happens

  • Side note...I was a little amazed when I first found out all this random crap could happen, after I got the No one left behind achievement on my first playthrough. Didn't seem like it was too complicated, but apparently I just got REALLY lucky.

  • A lot of the choices are logical... but some of them aren't. On my first playthrough, I thought that Zaeed would be able to lead since he friggin founded the blue suns and led their merc division, but then he died... so while it seemed fitting and all, I realized later that only a few people could accomplish each goal.

  • Yea, I'm with you on that note for sure. You can see the general idea they were going for with the suicide mission, all the aspects that factor in to life or death, but it just feels way too stringent. I think it was Sarai who said in another post that some Heavy Rain style interactions could go a long way in Mass Effect.

You picked Mordin for your tech specialist? It makes sense; he's a genius, you got him an upgraded omni-tool, why not? Well, even though further thought would point you toward Tali or Legion being the ideal choices, he should still have been able to do it. Maybe he still takes a shot while closing the door, then the QTE kick in. Can you save his life in time?

Same story for Zaeed as a team leader, you know?

  • Yep... I keep hoping that a stray Bioware developer will run across my posts on social.bioware.com and see that I keep saying MASS EFFECT 2 + Heavy Rain = MASS EFFECT 3... but who knows? I just think that you could have added a great deal more to the conversations, the interrupts, and the cut scenes if they implimented Heavy Rain type character control... it's like QTEs but better and they really get your blood pumping because there are so many ways that they can turn out.

  • For starters, don't believe the nonsense about being fully paragon or renegade. You can use Retrain powers to adapt to max out your class and get huge bonuses to both. With the right upgrades and research, you can complete the suicide mission with little to no problem. That, along with the Loyalty missions, experience, and character relationships, is what it will boil down to mostly, as those will contribute the most to whether or not your characters survive. I got the achievement on the first playthrough also, but I also had my character's abilities and weapons upgraded.

I chose Garrus as the first team leader; Legion as Tech specialist; Miranda as the diversion leader; Jack as my biotic; and Mordin as the escort. My final party had Legion and Grunt; yes, Grunt. Looks the the "hold the line" theory isn't as clear as it seems. I think the chances of survival for your characters in the final battle depends on more ambiguous and random factors than claimed. After all, Casey Hudson did say in his original X-Box interview for the sequel that maintaining relationships with your characters was also important to their survival.

  • Jeph: Same here! God, I was so relieved that no one died my first playthrough. And reading about all these scenarios where one or several characters die... scary.

Drevan: If all else fails, it could be a glitch. I doubt it, as it seems that Mordin is the first to die, but it could be a coincidence.

Did anyone intentionally aim for most/all of your party to die? I know if everyone dies, including Shepard, that the last scene involves Joker talking to the Illusive man. Is it possible for everyone on your squad to die, except for Shepard?

  • No, I don't think so. From what I hear, everyone in your squad dying is what causes shepard to die...indirectly, anyway. If all your squad is dead, there's no one besides Joker to pull you up into the ship after you miss that last jump. And Joker is weak. And you fall.

  • Ouch. What a way to go. You're right though, that makes a lot of sense.

It just would be cool if the ULTIMATE renegade ending was everyone dying except for Shepard.
