The lights are on
Whether you feel like the original Fallout titles were better than 3, or never played the originals and are just wondering how Bethesda's amazing reinvention stacks up to its isometric predecessors, this is where you can meet up with other wastelanders and
"Nuclear Winter is coming."
So, I assume that by now, you've heard the rumors circling the net about Bethesda's next entry in the highly popular Fallout series. Of course, they are only rumors at this point (Bethesda has neither acknowledged or declined the recent buzz), but I can keep the hype train moving along.
The hype train don't stop for nothing.
Most recently, the buzz about the next Fallout has blown up in the form of a website. The website in question, thesurvivor2299.com. Including the ever so familiar Vault-Tec logo, the website is followed with a constant loop of what is believed to be morse code and a message, warning visitors of a coming "nuclear winter". In between all the subtle hints of a Fallout game, lies a timer, counting down to a certain date.
A quick peek at what the site has to offer.
There are two separate countdowns. On one hand, we have some sort of event happening in 5 days, and another leads us to a date in early December. What confuses most people is the fact that the date is in the form of 11/12/13, which is used by most European countries. Strange, coming from Bethesda, which is an American company.
Using a Casar cipher, IO9, a popular science-fiction blog, has recently translated the morse code. Once deciphered, the code translates to this:
"MY DEAR SISTER. I'M HEADING TO THE INSTITUTE. GOD KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED
TO THIS PLACE NOW. THIS OLD *** WILL HELP US. HE MUST HELP US.
Leading us more and more into mystery, rumors about the next Fallout's location has all pointed to Boston, Massachusetts, home to The Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is what remains of the great state that was Massachusetts. Inside this war torn place of decay, you'll find the Institute, which is where it is believed that they have advanced technology able enough to produce androids. Mentioned in both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, the Institute is surrounded with mystery.
Indeed, Mr. House. Indeed.
So with that, I'll leave you to your own speculation. This of course should be just taken as ramblings of a mad man, but I digress. Take care travelers and remember...don't feed the yao guai!
CHOO CHOO MOTHER F**KERS!
100% this is Fallout. I honestly don't know what else this could be, unless if it is another Tactics game which will cause people to riot on the streets. Fallout here we come!
I've heard that the site has been confirmed fake. However, I have also talked with someone who has close ties with bethesda and has worked for them on a consultant basis, who tells me 4 is in production by Bethesda, and it will be set in the commonwealth.
Dude, read the Fallout reddit, it's most likely real and concept art is coming in a few days.
I've looked into it, there are a lot of arguments to both sides. The IP pinging to a polish dev that zenimax has no history with, the countdown clock having the variable name bscountdown.js, etc. doesn't bode well, and it will take more than a reddit page to convince me otherwise. I'm not saying it's impossible to be real, if it is a hoax it's honestly very well done, I'm just sceptical. Similar hoaxes were pulled for Skyrim.
My biggest issue is that if the site is fake, why hasn't Bethesda denied any affiliation that it has with it? I think that a "no comment" response is better than a no.
I think if this was a fake Bethesda would have sounded off on it the day after this went out. That's what developers usually do when something like this happens, and considering how big of a fan base Fallout has they would be crazy not to say anything if this was fake.
I just found out about this website. If it's fake, it's very well-made. If anything, it'll raise the hype. It is for that reason that I don't Bethesda would've said anything at first. At least, not necessarily.
Correct me if I am wrong but I thought I heard that Zenimax requiaitioned thesurvivor2299 so the chances of it not being fallout related are slim. Also Bethesda just trademarked fallout 4 in Europe so it is coming and probably soon. Thesurvivor2299 might be the fallout tv show that has been rumored though.
I'm hopeful that this one is real, because Bethesda did acquire the trademark to Fallout 4 in Europe, so maybe it is a real teaser site for us. Plus, I could see the name being used as the title of your character. I mean, in the first, you were The Vault Dweller. In number two, you were The Chosen One, in 3 you played The Lone Wanderer, and in New Vegas you played The Courier. Whats to say that ( and this is hypothetical) you play someone known as The Survivor? Maybe you're the last survivor of a vault, or a ghoul that survived through all these wars, or even maybe you'll play as another heir to one of the previous characters like you did in two? Perhaps The Survivor is the offspring of the Lone Wanderer? Just saying, the name would make sense in a Fallout game. At least to me.
Here's another coded message that mentions "the institute."
And the plot thickens...
A new website has surfaced that houses an animation that includes the vault-tec logo and Van Dyke Parks' "The Attic". Website: http://thepropheteer.com/
If you re-size the page after the circles stop spinning, you get this: imgur.com/.../RvdXT3x
Unfortunately, turns out thesurvivor2299 was a hoax. Bethesda also says they will not be at VGX. However, all of this begs one to wonder what the real status of Fallout 4 is. A 2014 launch would keep with the 3 year development cycle Bethesda has had going since Morrowind (2002, 2005, 2008, 2011 all had a Bethesda launch), but to keep with that cycle, you would expect an announcement soon. If not at VGX, and not over thesurvivor2299, then where, and when? Do y'all think that Bethesda will break the cycle they've had for over a decade now, or do they have something mindblowing planned that will come to light soon, as was teased in a tweet by the director of VGX in January?
1) Oblivion came out in 2006, so there is no 3 year cycle
2) Even if there was a cycle, I don't really believe that Bethesda would care about pushing their next game out just to keep with "tradition"
That being said, I hope that Pete Hines is messing with us and Fallout 4 is announced Saturday. I want this rumor to be true!
Whoops, my mistake. Also I wasn't suggesting it would be "tradition", I was suggesting that maybe they have a set development cycle that allocates 3 years per game. Not true obviously, but it's not like that would be far fetched if my info was correct. Not like Bethesda has ever been one to postpone a launch for something as mundane as testing or fixing glitches XD
(Sorry for double post. GI's fault.)
