The lights are on
We could say that the Elder Scrolls games are massive, but that would be an understatement. Think you've seen every sight and completed every quest in the series? Think you know where the series is headed next? Why don't you share some of your knowledge he
As I've said many times, I'm very VERY excited to play Skyrim. So I was wondering if Morrowind was worth tracking down? I've heard from a lot of people that it's awesome, but obviously it's outdated. So is it worth it or should I just wait for Skyrim?
I would say definitely get it. Once you get past the graphics it is very good. The story is much better than Oblivion's. If you do get it get the Game of the Year edition.
Morrowind is absolutely worth checking out . I played through that game 6 times , with over 1,000 hours . I only have 250 hours in Oblivion .
You can get a used copy of the GOTY ed. for $3.50 off of Amazon.
I think it's worth playing (you shouldn't have trouble finding a copy).
Keep in mind, however, that you will have to deal with some dated gameplay mechanics. For example, you can't just click on places on your map and instantly travel there like in Oblivion. Also, some of the skills that were condensed in Oblivion are spread out all over the place (like long swords and short swords instead of just having a bladed weapons skill). Another thing that might bother you is the fact that it's a lot easier to screw up quests in Morrowind while you're exploring. For example, you might be out just randomly adventuring, run into some dumb khajit, chop his head off and then skip away only to find out ten hours later that he was for some quest that you can't complete because you killed him already. In my experience it's generally more glitchy than Oblivion, too.
If that stuff doesn't deter you (and I hope it doesn't), then by all means pick it up. Back when I played, it didn't bug me, but I just took it as a given. I can see how it might turn off people who have only played Oblivion, though. I definitely think they made some changes for the better with Oblivion in regards to the sort of stuff I'm talking about, but Morrowind is still an amazing, unique experience.
Okay, thanks guys! I believe I will look for it.
I absolutely loved Morrowind. The story of that game is absolutely amazing. Plus hunting down all the legendary weapons. I definitely liked it better than Oblivion.
I played the Game of the Year Edition when I was in Junior High and thought it was pretty cool. Never got that far into the story but I loved the Blood Moon missions. Personally I like Oblivion better.
What @DuskMirage said, but I do want to advise that if you want to play a more updated version, there are some small mods that you can get for the PC version that will bring it up to Oblivion graphical quality and there are some mods that will edit some of the more annoying qualities, some of which he mentioned. Other than that, I absolutely think Morrowind is worth your time. It'll give you a deeper sense of the overall Elder Scrolls world and the game's plot was to die for!
Thanks everybody! I think I will try to track it down.
BTW, it is a hard game. It takes a lot of time to get good at. It took me months, maybe a year...with the help of my sister.
Yes. One of the best game in the series
Is the best game in my opinion, would make an awesome reboot. Maybe once they get through the rest of the provinces they'll go through the cycle again. The way technology is going they might end up with The Elder Scrolls: Nirn.
Definately the best story of the series. I really like how much more involved the conversations were with the lack of total voice acting. Heavy on the reading and some dated mechanics, but one of the better games of all time
This is probably the best game i've played so far out of the series. The world had so much more to see and do. There were these great little details added in with secret notes and stories and locations. I had the pleasure of buying it with all the dlc included and I loved every minute of the game. It's very difficult to get back into it with graphics the way they are. It would make a great pc game with some texture updates and better hit detection.
maybe get rid of all those damn cliff racers.
Wow, I almost forgot about this lol. Anyway, I did wind up getting it (thanks Steam sales!), and enjoyed it quite a bit.
