The lights are on

The Official Dragon Age Group

BioWare knows how to tell a good story, and Dragon Age is no exception. With six different origin stories, a stack of side quests to complete, and a variety of player decisions that effect the kingdom of Ferelden, it's unlikely any two players shared the s

  • Ladies and Gentlemen!  Boys and Girls of all ages!  Today is your Christmas Eve because tomorrow happiness will be delivered to stores everywhere in the form of DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS.  I hope everyone has a blast and I look forward to watching this forum blow up with comments and cool stories in the days to come.

I received a call from Gamestop and it alerted me that it was arriving tomorrow afternoon...good thing I have stuff to do tomorrow morning.  LOL!  HAVE FUN YOU GUYS!

  • I'm playing it now. LOVING the story so far. The history of the world, which is introduced at the beginning, pulls you right in. I'm also enjoying having a dog. I'm not sure if he comes with all classes, but you get him early on with the human warrior. I accidentally named this adorable little killer W (not sure what happened, but it saved it after I hit one letter). In honor of this error, all dog related decisions are based on "what would George W. Bush do?" So far, this has led to nothing but sidesplitting hilarity.

  • yeah it will be Christmas Eve indeed

  • Yes i can't wait untill i pick it up tomorrow i nwill be up like all night playing it and i hope that i can have the Blood Dragon Armor on the Ps3 and i hope it comes with the other 2 things that the game is supposed to come with and i also hope that PSN puts out the $15 add on out asap

  • Ive got my two games ready to go that are going to make my price alot cheaper. I love gamestop, btw. With trading games in that i dont like anymore to lower my cost to about 19 dollars is awsome. I CANT WAIT!!!!!!

  • Rock on!  I can't wait to play it!

  • Kinda bummed. I rushed to pick up Dragon Age at my local GameStop, installed it on my 360's hard drive, inputted all of my preorder codes, then started character creation, only to have to stop and take care of some business at work (yes I get to play at work when I'm not busy). By the time I was done, it was time to clock out and go home, and I hadn't even finished character creation yet. So I'll start the game tomorrow at work (hopefully) and then post my thoughts later.

  • First impressions - Uuuuugly. Only played about 20 minutes last night, and was just astounded by the low quality of the visuals. I can grin and bear it and just enjoy it for the game it is... but sheesh, it might be difficult.

  • ya yeterday at 5 or so i rushed to get my game at gamestop up in brockport and UPS hadnt even been there and they were supposed to get there yesterday morning so today they called and told me the  game is in so around 4:30 or so im gonna head up when i get the chance and i really hope that the game is good

  • I think the visuals are just fine. They do the job and help convey the story, which is the main reason why I was so excited about the game anyways. I finished my mage's origin story last night and my first impressions are very positive. I like the ease of using the hot buttons and the radial menus on the 360 controller, and the cone/area templates for using spells makes casting AoE spells a piece of cake. I'm playing on hard, so I have to worry about friendly fire, and the templates help out a lot.

  • Visuals are good.  : )  I think a lot of people have been mislead by the hundreds of trailers and vids out there.  The game actually rocks!!

  • Really... seriously, the visuals are not good. Even "just fine" is mincing words. Love for the developer and game's formula aside... I literally moan in displeasure every time I start the game up, and re-remember for the 8th time just how horrible so much of it looks. Beyond that, the sub 30 frame rate makes it oh so much harder to endure. Take a moment to look over this unlabeled shot from what appears to be the PC version, the best visually of the 3. (I  say "appears" because from what I've read the 360 version actually has worse textures than the PS3 version though a smoother frame rate, and I know the detail on the hound fur texture was lower than this for the PS3.)

Let's play "What's wrong with this picture".

Eight sided barrels: I can't think of the last time I've seen something like this. We've had the ability to render cylindrical barrels and pillars and what not for years.

Wood textures: Take a brief look at the stands for the barrels, absolutely no definition. Or the door - both the side and front are on perhaps on par with textures from two generations ago.

If you were able to see the other side of the room, there are several... this took me a while to figure out, sacks of grain. But at first, second and third glance (as you wait, hoping for the texture to render to a higher quality) they appear to be shapeless, colorless blobs.

Anyway... all I want is for people to be honest in their reviews - so no more fanboy sugarcoating pleeeease.

  • I agree from a creator like Bioware who made Mass Effect a great RPG with a good story long enough game play and great graphics. I cant see why they couldn't make this better visually. I played the wood elf warrior origins at my friends house to test it out and mind you his TV sucks so you would think that Mass Effects graphics were ok on it but DAO graphics scared me. Now i still haven't gotten this game and i have a 26' 720p HDW tv so im hoping it will help out alot there too.

  • But also I was just thinking this too.....

For the last half a decade as i flow through forums and other such thing I read alot of articles that talk about how people want developers to stop putting all there time into graphics and more into gameplay. Now im not going to go 100% behind this but Bioware did kinda listen to our crys. They gave use a great RPG but as we can see its kinda like we are playing a Xbox original game.

  • Yeah, the 360 version must be really, really subpar to the PS3 version, because I had round barrels, defined wood posts, defined animal fur, I could see everything in the room and tell what it was when I walked in. This is the problem with buying games like this on the least powerful of the 3 systems it was released on.

If you bred HK-47, Shale, Chai Ka and Wrex, the gaming world would explode from sheer badassery.
