The lights are on
Even more than two years after its release, BioShock is still worth talking about. What's you favorite moment? How many Big Daddies did you take down without dying? What are you looking forward to the most about BioShock 2? Begin speculating here.
THE Big Daddy: Rapture's walking tank.
These protectors roam the chaos that was the once great city, fearing none of the homicidal lunatics and splicers trying to scavenge a bit of ADAM. They are formidable opponents, and I want to know how you took them out. What strategy worked for you? What combination of plasmids and weapons brought these behemoths to their knees? AND... how did you knock off those first couple of Big Daddies with so little to work with?
With Bioshock 2 approaching I thought it would be interesting to look at Bioshock strategy.

Just shoot the *** out of it
Lay down a row of trap bolts in front of a bouncer, then shoot one bullet at him. His shoulder charge does the rest.
This does seem to be the most effective method. How did you take them out before you had the crossbow though?
Yep, the trap bolts work, along with some steel ones. Or, you could hypnotize one and pit them against each other. That's one of my favorite methods for killing them off.

I go to an unhacked machine hack it hitting the red so security bots come, then use the plasmid to make the security bots go after the big daddy
Earlier in the game, I often used Incinerate or armor-piercing pistol rounds, but later in the game I've found that incendiary bolts work really well. If I recall, it only took two incendiary bolts to take down a Rosie
fully upgraded buck shot with explosive ammo.
Electro Bolt 3. Hold it in place, obliterate with Explosive Buck shot.
Even better on Alpha Series.
Also, for Rumblers, hurl all of its projectiles back with TK. Saves ammo!
For Big Sisters, Heavy Rivets are your best friends, along with steady amounts of Incinerate and Armor-Piercing Ammo for the chaingun.
In the original, I found Electric and Explosive Buck worked wonders on any Big Daddy. For Bouncers, later on anyway, just lay a crap load of Trap Bolts and Mines, shoot him with the pistol, and done.
Rosie is a bit more difficult, but Incendiary Bolts from the Crossbow work nicely, along with Armor-Piercing machine gun rounds.
