  • well youre just looking at damage dealing and taking capabilities. grass and poison types are usually useful for their wide array of status and game changing moves. grass types can inflict all status ailments save burn and freeze, and have moves like leech seed that can further increase their usefullness. poison are pretty much the same way, being primarily based off their poisonous abilities.

  • Like I said, this is just my opinion. It's also the way I play.

Everything you said there is true, and status affecting moves are useful and game changing, but in my play style I don't use them that much. It's just the way I am.

    Now you're playing with power!

  • I agree with Volt Devilray about grass types when battling though. Whenever I would battle with people over the Internet they always had at least one Pokemon that knew Ice Beam or Flamethrower or something like those and my Leafeon was always got knocked out.

  • You do have a point, Devilray. When it comes down to it, it's all just your preference. For example, I like using stat boosting moves online, such as Hone Claws on my Zangoose so Focus Blast may hit the target more. On the other hand, I don't really try to inflict status alignments, like SuperKing.

Sorry, but your princess is in another castle.

  • That's the thing about grass types have so many weaknesses that most teams will have at least a move that they are weak against. Now with the right duel type they can negate most of their weaknesses and be very strong. Such as the grass/steel Ferroseed, now there is one grass pokemon I will definitely have on my team when I finally play Black/White.

Exactly Benderstrike, it's just my preference.

I use stat affecting moves, normally accuracy/evasion. As for status ailments I normally only use confusion and sleep, I just never have had much use for paralysis since it never seems to work when I need it to, and poison is more annoying than anything to me. Like you Benderstrike, I don't  really try to inflect them.

  • Grass types, for me at least, are mostly the quick kind of Pokemon (with exceptions such as Torterra).  They kind move fast and get in those blows that can change the battle.  Whenever I battle I usually go full offensive (something I plan on changing) with quick, powerful attacks such as leaf blade.  I know the Grass types have many weakness and I prepare for that.  Besides a grass type I usually have a fighting, water, dragon, flying, and the last type is saved for personal favorites (although all the Pokemon I use are my favorites while still being useful) such as Victini or Raichu.  In the end you just have to make it work out for yourself in battle, no matter the opponent there is usually some way to defeat them.

The champions come together and a new battle ensues!

  • @ Icarus: That is a great way of putting it "no matter the opponent there is usually some way to defeat them" you sound like a wise pokemon master teaching his pupils.

I'm the same way, I always hit fast and hit hard, take them out before they can take me out. But with my play through of Soul Silver I'm finding myself using more non-offensive moves, as well as using grass types. Exactly, as long as you are prepared properly there is no type of pokemon that you can't use effectively.
