The lights are on
A group to bring together Team GIO 2012 in their efforts to donate to charity.
Before I get too much into this thread, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your participation in Extra-Life. As a father with a son who has needed the help of the Children's Miracle Network of Hospitals, I cannot express my gratitude enough to those who donate or seek to solicite donations on their behalf. I look forward to gaming with as many of you as I can during this event.
Now, on to the fun stuff. As October slowly creeps up on us, many think they have plenty of time to solicite donations. My friends, I want you to start now and go for broke. If you can't get a donation from someone, enlist them in the team, do anything you can to help. To give you inspiration, and to reward you for your efforts, we are going to have some drawings. Some of these will be for those enrolling in the team and also for those who get someone to enroll in the team. Some of these drawings will be during the October 20th event or right afterwards and you will be able to enter multiple drawings base don the amount of money you were able to raise. My goal is to use this thread to let you all know what prizes will be available as well as how those prizes can be won. We have not yet finalized the structure, but here are some details I can confirm:
Prizes will include:- An author autographed hardcover anniversary edition of a collection of Star Wars comics (provided by myself and Michael Stackpole, reknowned author and production team member of Wasteland)- An E3 swag pack (provided by shootist2600)- A prize or prize pack (details still unknown) from Take 2 Interactive (i.e. Rockstar!)- Gift cards for iTunes, Xbox Live, Gamestop, and Sony (various providers)- An autographed Brandon Sanderson book (replacement writer for Robert Jordan in the Wheel of Time series as well as the author of the Mistborn trilogy and The Way of Kings)- A PC download code for Ghost Recon: Future Soldier- And Much, much more
The more money you raise and the more people you help sign up, the more prizes, and better prizes, you can win. I know we are all excited to help some great kids out, but I hope this adds another level to it. Now get cracking!
Just to be clear, the way to earn each of the above prizes has not been 100% determined. However, most will be based on the amount of money you, and those who sign up because of you, raise.
Well I know of at least four or five people I nagged into Team GIO already, so WAHAHAHAHA
I need to know who they are so I can calculate appropriately, please send me a convo or twitter message.
Quick update for you all.
First, we are having a promotion/drawing that will take place on July 14th. From now until then, each $5 donation made tou your account earns one entry into the drawing. Additionally, if you recruit a new member to the team, you get another entry and the person who joins will get an entry. What will we be drawing for? A full PC version download code for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier! So get cracking!
Second, Stranger has done an amazing job and got in touch with some of the fine people at Double Fine Games and has procured a Steam download code for a Double Fine Bundle (Psychonauts, Costume Quest, and Stacking) as well as an Xbox 360 DL Code for the full version of Iron Brigade! A huge thanks again to Stranger and Double Fine for that excellent addition to the stash for this year!
You can exclude me from this drawing then because I only own a PS3. Which is good for everyone else because that means a better chance at winning! ;)
Doing a great job Brian! This is awesome, we are going to have the greatest TEAM GIO ever!!!!

So, we have news from Take 2! I have been promised an attempt to get more and have made a specific request that my contact will try and fill *fingers crossed*. Regardless, they have already come through for us and in a big way. They have donated a small pile of games as incentive prizes!
Here is what I have from them at this point:
- Max Payne 3 (PC)
- The Darkness II Limited Edition (PC)
- Civilization: Gods and Kings Expansion (PC)
- Max Payne 3 (Xbox 360)
Keep an eye out for more from these great guys as well as the system we are going to use for the drawings! It's starting to get close and this is getting exciting. Keep getting the donations and keep recruiting, it will all be well worth it, especially for the kids whose live's you will help!
Wait, we get rewards for donations? *scrambles off to force random passersby to donate*
Seriously, though, it's awesome of you guys to do this stuff. It really shouldn't be necessary, but whatevs. Can't promise I'll bring in any money, but I'll try, and I respect all of you for what you're doing. Props! And, if you lean that way, /)
@Caudex - It's definitely awesome. Prizes are an incentive, but I don't usually like taking them. Just ask mojo. Last year's Extra Life I won something and ended up declining it. He pretty much gave me no choice and made me claim one a few months later. Remember that, mojo? ;)
I have managed to get my hands on a few prizes, two of which I will announce now:
- Season 1 of Adventure Time
- A new, signed copy of the Super Replay classic Overblood for Playstation
more prizes will be forthcoming, I just have to get them into my possession before I make any promises. :D
I could use some of those Gamestop giftcards, but that copy of Overblood is lookin' real good. That's one heck of a snag Jack.

Nice going Jack and noob! I have a few tricks up my sleeve as well, but since Jack seems to think he doesn't need to tell us what the other prizes are, I am not going to tell him neither. nanananana
I think Deck's going to contribute a piece of art as a prize (he's a completely amazing artist) if he doesn't decide to auction off the art and donate the proceeds to Team GIO himself.
