The lights are on
A group to bring together Team GIO 2012 in their efforts to donate to charity.
Hi! My name is Kyle Lemmon or Frosty/Frostified/Stay Frosty/Champ Frosty/whatever. I'm a graduate of Pacific Union College and I've been an avid gamer ever since I was in diapers. My first system was an NES and I constantly played The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. I I grew up in the rural town of Loomis, CA, I developed an interest in writing. I was disappointed that my high school didn't have a newspaper so I interned at the Loomis News and the Sacramento Bee. Upon graduating, I pursued my love of writing at my college's newspaper. I've covered video games, music, film, and TV and even toppled a cult-like pyramid scheme that was gripping the faculty at the time. One enrollment counselor was asked to leave because of my paper's investigation.
I continued to play video games throughout this time and upon exiting with my B.S. in Journalism/Public Relations I decided to freelance for publications such as Filter, Under the Radar, Pitchfork, Spin, Slant, Kill Screen, and Prefix Mag. In June of 2009, I married the beautiful elementary school teacher Brooke Osborne and we now have a daughter named Arden Quinn. When I'm not writing about or playing video games, I'm most likely listening to indie rock, watching The Twilight Zone, drinking cranberry juice, or slowly working on my It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia book. I also chat about entertainment stuff on the weekly podcast Test Patterns with my high school friend Daniel Kielman. As you can tell, I love to use the Aliens-inspired idiom "stay frosty."
Best to luck to everyone raising money for Extra Life. We can do this! I think I will be playing Dishonored and/or Resident Evil 6 on October 20. Feel free to add me on PSN. My username is S3v3n_5wan5. Anyway, that's enough blabbing for now.
Its very likely that this is the best intro ever.
Its awesome that you get to write for magazines and such. I only write for a local newspaper, but I wish it was more.
I like your daughters name. Especially the Quinn part... Harley Quinn ftw!
I only like cranberry juice when its mixed with liquor.
"I'm a dude, playin' a dude, disguised as anotha dude! You a dude that don't know what dude he is!" -Robert Downey Jr. in Tropic Thunder
Great intro Frosty! You are doing a great job as a part of TEAM GIO, raising lots of money, helping lots of sick kids.
I listened to your podcast the other day, I enjoyed it. I had been debating whether or not to start watching the new News sitcom on HBO, I think I may try it.
"You know nothing Jon Snow"
@Frosty - Loved the introduction! It was like reading a mini biography. :)
Dunno if I'm doing this right, cause I'm not used to posting in forums on here, but my name is Jake from MI and I'm an avid GIO fan. Been here for a couple years now, and always have a tab of it up on my browser ^.^ But enough of this, good luck on the donations people. FOR THE KIDS!!!!
Well hopefully this is better late than never. My name is Kyle and I've been gaming for more than 30 years. I enjoy mostly shooters and action adventure games or RPGs and play on both 360 and PS3 (and a little Wii on the side). I've belonged to a few gaming clans in my time (currently belong to The Night Crew Clan, or NCRW), though often end up playing with one or more friends here and there -- mostly co-op with mojomonkey12, which I highly recommend for a fun, easy going experience. After all, I'm all about just kickin' back and enjoying a good (or bad) game with friends. If my 0.80 KDR in most shooters isn't indicative of that, I don't know what is, though truth be told I play a lot as a medic when that option exists so tend to get shot a lot LOL. My fave achievement, because it's the most appropriate, was Bullet Sponge in FEAR. Anyway, that should give you an idea. Plus I really enjoy movies. My games and movies collections have each hovered around 400 for years, mostly because I can't store many more haha! Anyway glad to associated with such fine folks and if you're considering joining Team GIO please don't hesitate! ; )
GIO Usage Guidelines/The Newcomer Cheat Sheet/Terms and Conditions
Oh, hey oh hi,
I'm TurdFurgy (I made our team logo we're using this year)
I was in last year's group and I was very proud of what we accomplished.
I hope to at least match what I raised last year which will be harder for me as I don't have the extra $ that I did last year.
I have enlisted the aid of my mom's store to donate a percentage of the game related sales to our cause so there is that. And I plan to actually go out and raise some money.
I know we're really going to help some Tiny Tims, so LET'S DO IT TO IT!
A little late to the party... my name is Mark, I've been a gamer since my Texas Instruments home computer. 34, married, still having a blast with life. I'm hoping this charity event helps get me a little more social and a little less sitting on the couch or in my chair doing nothing.
Welcome to the team markus1142!
I'm even later to the party. I am Dustin and I like helping people. I am 21 and very much a poor college student. Yeah, that about sums it up and I am going back to playing Skyrim now, I mean studying...
What's up Dustin! TEAM GIO is made up of a bunch of poor people, that is why we work as a collective to raise a bunch of money! You aren't late, you are right on time! welcome.
I guess I've been holding off on this long enough, mainly because I don't do very well when it comes to introductions. So, without further ado, I present to you my little intro.
My name is Valerie (in case you couldn't tell) and I'm 25 with a soon-to-be 3-year-old boy. Video games have always been my number one passion, ever since the days of the NES when I would play nonstop with my siblings and cousins. And I'm proud to say that I'm still not very good at it. XD But hey, I enjoy playing games and that's what counts in the end. Especially when it comes to utilizing it for a good cause such as Extra Life. A very proud time to call yourself a gamer if you ask me.
Besides games, I also enjoy spending time learning the ways of the skateboard. Granted that's also something I'm not very good at, but I know with a bit more practice and patience (not to mention scabs and bloodshed), I will one day reach that level of "professionalism" I'm aiming for. So far, I can only do an ollie. -_- I know, not the greatest but I'm getting there VERY slowly. Just you wait and see.
Aside from those, I would have to say the most rewarding way I engage my free time is undoubtedly when I spend it with my son. Yes, he's at that age where he's a pain in the a**, but it just makes it that much more special because it's part of the bigger picture of watching him grow up before my eyes. As a parent, that's the best part of life and something I consider a true blessing. I don't intend on wasting it. Not when it comes to my little man.
So, that's about it. Yep. Pretty dull, huh? Anyway, let's get out there and raise some money! Let's do it for the children! After all, they're the world's greatest treasures. :)
Greetings all, my name is Jake but I go by Jay. I'm 25 years old and I'm a writer. I've wrote scripts and stories and I post articles for a news site. I was born in the lovely state of California (LA) and grew up a little in Boston but I moved back to California until I moved to Michigan for college when I was 19. I've been gaming since before I can remember, I started up on the SEGA Genesis and had a blast. I have very fond memories with Sonic the Hedgehog and other classics the system had to offer. I'm a HUGE gamer, I have all three systems of this generation and a few handhelds, I have countless games from this gen and last gen. I even have a Japanese account for my PS3 and a few downloaded Japanese games and I've imported a few titles. Nothing much else worth sharing, I'm just an average guy (dumb at most times :P) and my main goal as of now is to move back to LA and work for my uncles company as a public relations agent, I've got about a little less then 2 years now until then, once again I'll be leaving my close friends behind but oh well. I'll never stop, even if someone broke my thumbs I'll still find a way to game. I also have a love of Zelda and Horror games. Now lets earn some donations, help out children, and have a good marathon come October 20th!
