  • A few months ago I posted a thread on who you guys think was the better enemy, Pyramid Head or Nemesis. The majority of the group gave the title to Pyramid Head. Well, I decided too step it up a notch. Which series do you think is better. I don't really know if I can answer it straight, so I decided too break up each game a bit.

    SILENT HILL

Silent Hill was released on Jan. 31 1999 on the PlayStation (fun fact). Silent Hill was a great way to start off the series. It was a nice game but it was not perfect and Silent Hill 2 proved that.

Silent Hill 2: In my opinion it is the best survival horror game out there. Just how many endings can you get? Almost everything about it was awesome.

Silent Hill 3: Heathers quest is a great one, not as good as James' but SH 3 still had the good old survival horror feel to it.

Silent Hill 4: The Room: This one was a disappointment in my opinion. I don't really remember too much from this one, which proves that I was disappointed.

Silent Hill: Origins: Not that good of game I thought. It just did not seem like a Silent Hill game to me for some reason.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories: Improved over Origins but still was disappointing.

Silent Hill: Homecoming: It is underrated. No its not the worst in the series but it is at the bottom. It left a little sour taste in my mouth, not as bad as Origins did though.

    Now time for RESIDENT EVIL

Resident evil/REmake: Is REmake better? Yes, yes it is. Is The original good though? Yes, that mansion will always live with me.

Resident Evil 2: Leon makes his appearance in a much more memorable map. I prefer REmake over it however.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis: My favorite in the series. Yes I have a secret crush on Ms. Jill Valentine, and I will always remember you Nemesis.

Resident Evil 4: I may be called old school for saying that 3 is better than this one, but 4 is still great. RE made its real debut on the PS2 with this one (my opinion) and it looked better than any other RE game did.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X: I did not really like this one. I was very disappointed with this it.

Resident Evil 5: It was alright, not too bad but could of been better. I will say this though; you've got to love Chris' bolder punching action.

Resident Evil: Revelations: I am loving this one, I get too play as my favorite heroine Ms. Jill Valentine and kill me some zombies on a handheld. It is amazing how great Capcom did making RE on a handheld.

Alright I am done babbling. You guys are probably tired of reading this now. I guess I would say that Resident Evil wins it for me.

What do you guys think? Silent Hill or Resident Evil? Or as the Japanese say, "BioHazard".

First things first, My favorite series is RE.. and my favorite Survival Horror game of all time is SH2. I think RE has had more quality games than the SH series.

I agree with everything you said about SH, so I don't need to respond to that lol. I think you hit the nail on the head.

Resident Evil/REmake: I agree, REmake is better in every way. The game added the 180 turn from the newer outings, a beautiful graphics engine and an iconic new enemy in the Crimson heads.

RE2: This is actually one of my favorite titles in the series, and given the day you ask me...my favorite. I just can't choose between this and 4, but this is arguably the crowning jewel in the series.

RE3: An awesome game that initially felt more like an expansion pack to RE2. The more and more I played it however, the more I fell in love with the game. Also Nemesis lol. Also Jill lol.(Even though miss Redfield is my childhood crush)

RE4: I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this IMMENSELY "RE made it's real debut on the PS2 with this one" RE4 was optimized for the Gamecube, and looked twice as good on said console. The version on PS2 was a watered down version that tried to make up for that by adding the Separate Ways mission and a few costumes. Up until the new HD versions were released, the GC copy was the definitive version.

RE: Code Veronica/ X version on PS2: This a polarizing entry in the series for some fans, but I loved it. I bought the original when I first picked my Dreamcast, and I didn't stop playing for about a month. I later picked the PS2 X version, and enjoyed the extra Wesker sections. I can understand why some people don't care for it though. (inb4 Adym) ;)

RE5: Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, but it didn't really feel like an RE game. I've made my peace with this game, and I enjoy it for what it is.

REvelations: Single-handedly changed my feelings on handhelds. I loved it.

You also forgot RE0 my friend, I loved this game. I'm sure Deck is crying in a corner as well over it's omission. ;)

  • Not sure why the rest of my comments are shaded a different color, but there ya have it lol.

  • "RE: Code Veronica/ X version on PS2: This a polarizing entry in the series for some fans, but I loved it. I liked Code Veronica. That was the one with Steve and the moth woman right? I hated them two. Everything else was good though.

Except for the jet at the end. That was BS and I'll tell you why-

  • I think that Resident Evil has higher quality games and an overall better series, but I love the stories of the Silent Hill games. (I also like Resident Evil's story, but when done right, a Silent Hill story is great.)

  • Good topic J. I actually wrote a blog about this very subject on my profile... *hint, hint*...

But in short, as much as I love Silent Hill, I think overall RE has more games of quality to offer than SH does. In my opinion, the glory days of SH died with Team Silent, whereas RE has been moving forward, evolving and becoming more bad*ss all the time.

  • Okay, so I have a shameful confession to make. I have never played any Silent Hill game. Now before everybody starts throwing stuff at me, let me explain lol. I was fairly young when Silent Hill first released, but still saw some of it.

You know how they say things that scared you as a kid stay with you, and effect more then recent scares? Yeah, that's true lol. Every since then pretty much everything to do with Silent Hill has freaked me out. But a part of me still wants to try the HD collection to see what I'm missing.

Though I am a HUGE fan of Resident Evil.

  • @Masterassassin: you're breakin' my heart man...

  • maxiboy77:

RE is for me!!! SH scared me more, but I feel more involved with RE story and characters, just like people feel with the MGS series as well!!! RE for the win :)

I agree Max, I actually care about the characters and story. MGS is awesome as well! :)

Steve Burnside is in the running for worst RE character of all time for my money. The jet at the end was a bit eh as well.

You mirror my sentiments exactly my friend.

I agree, SH has become stagnant while RE continues to be relevant. Hopefully one day we can get a Team Silent worthy game.

You get a pass for being a "HUGE fan of Resident Evil" ;) I still think you should check out the HD collection down he road, you might be surprised and end up liking it.
