The lights are on
Looking for a survival Horror group? I was as well. Looking to reminisce about such classics as Eternal darkness, Resident Evil and Silent Hill? Why am I asking so many questions? Well then this is the group for you my friend!
Hello to all,
So recently, badgerbil recommended this fantastic game series to me called "Parasite Eve", it's basically Resident Evil mixed with Final Fantasy, and a dash of Asian madness. In short, I LOVE it. I was curious to find out if anyone else on the SHG had played it, and what their thoughts were about it. I've been playing a lot of PS1 games lately, and this is one of the best I've experienced. I was sad that it didn't seem to catch on as much as RE or SH, but on the other hand, it's better to leave people wanting more than to make them sick of a series that used to be respected.
Anyhow, all this to say, old games are the ***-nitz, and if you haven't experienced their exquisiteness, then now is the time! Plus, they're dirt-cheap/free, which is good for the wallet if you're in the mood for a new gaming experience but hard up for cash. Not sure if I'm preaching to the converted or not, but either way, I felt like some of you guys would enjoy Parasite Eve.
i have not played the first Parasite Eve game yet but i did buy PE 2 on playstation network and to be honest i didn't really enjoy that game....Have you played Dino crisis? i've heard good things about the first two games and I can't wait until I have the chance to play both games.
How can you not enjoy Parasite Eve? I think the first Dino Crisis is really great, the second one is more of an arcade shooter but it is still a great game.
I say if you have a PS2 laying around try to find Haunting Ground, it is an overlooked Capcom horror title.
@il1989ful, Haha, well so far I've only played the first one, although I'll probably play the second next. It did take a little getting used to, but once I got the hang of the controls, I really started enjoying it. Actually, I have never even heard of Dino Crisis, what system is it for?
@BTS, Haunting ground eh? I've never played that, I should check it out! Did they make it for PC, or just PS2?
Another game I really want to get my hands on is Eternal Darkness, I've heard nothing but praise for that game.
Oh man, that's embarrassing, I just realized I spelled "Survival" wrong... Oops.
(._.)
Haunting Ground is only on PS2, but you can play it on an emulator if you want.
Dino crisis is a survival horror game for the ps1 it was made by Capcom
I recently beat Dino Crisis after years of having it languish in my backlog, and I was a little disappointed with it. I liked the resource management, but it bugged me how you could never really kill off the dinosaurs, and it was difficult to move around them in the tight hallways.
I remember when Haunting Ground came out, shortly after RE4. It didn't get great reviews, but it seems to have become a cult classic. It's supposed to be like Clock Tower, which was a game that I really liked.
There are a lot of cool things in Eternal Darkness, it's a unique game. I never beat it, though. -.-
One old game that I wonder if anyone else in this group has heard about is Galerians. It was a sci-fi survival horror game about a kid with amnesia who wakes up in a hospital with amazing (and destructive) psychic powers. It was like the classic anime movie Akira + survival horror. I rented it, but got stuck and never got my own copy of it. :(
@BaneTigerSeeker: Sweet, I'll try to emulate it, I've usually enjoyed capcom games, and I'm always up for survival horror.
@il1989ful: Thanks, I'll give it a shot! :)
@badgerbil: Well, regarding Dino Crisis, I guess I won't know till I play it. Was the game itself hard, or did you mostly struggle with the controls?
Yeah, I've seen some clips and trailers from ED, and it looks great, I really need to pick it up sometime although I'll have to pick it up off eBay, I was sad when GameStop ceased selling Gamecube games.
Galerians? Oh man, so many games I haven't played! It sounds intriguing though, what system is it for?
@Samael: The game was just hard. The dinos could deal a lot of damage, and there wasn't a lot of health items and ammo. The controls weren't too bad, but the game didn't support analog controls, which could be hard on the hands.
Galerians was a PS1 game from 2000. It spanned three discs. It had a lot of prerendered cutscenes.
@badgerbil: Haha, I'm a bit nervous to play it now, but I will be impressed if it is harder than the original Legend of Zelda, that game made me weep... I'll be playing Dino Crisis on the PC though, so maybe I can map out the buttons in a more convenient position.
Sweet, I'll check it out! The PS1 was such a great system. :)
Btw, I'm such in the Zoo on Parasite Eve, I have NO clue where to go, any suggestions?
*stuck in the zoo
Dino Crisis is very fun. I like the bleeding system. You have to patch up wounds or else the dinos can find you or you'll bleed out. You really have to conserve your ammo.
@Samael: If you're stuck, could you say where exactly so I can try to help? If you're already in the zoo, I think you may have to chase after the little girl that appears in the paths of the zoo. According to GameFAQs, you have to take the right forks in the paths to get to the end of the area.
@J Warrior: That sounds really cool! Kinda reminds me of MGS: Snake Eater where you have to heal specific wounds.
@badgerbil: Okay, that helps a bit, I'll give it a shot. I've been wandering around the zoo, but I can't find any keys. I'm back at the entrance again now.
