The lights are on
Want to discuss women in games besides how "hot" they are? Instead of focusing on female assets, we'll be discussing how much females can kick ass and save the day! Whoever you like, let's talk about the positive female heroines in games!
So you're saying The Outsider's performance was actually good?! Well that abruptly ends my relationship with the Official Playstation Mag UK. In their Dishonored review they said this about the cast:
"A level of depth that the star-studded cast brings to life with varying levels of success. Chloe Moretz’s voice work creates an instant protective bond between young heiress to the throne Emily Kaldwin and your bad self. Mad Men’s John Slattery makes a great pompous resistance leader in Admiral Havelock and Dune’s Brad Dourif makes a complex, skin-crawling presence out of Piero, creator of your deadly wares, member of Dunwall’s intelligentsia and rival of the great Sokolov.
It’s that neat combination of spirited voice acting and thoughtful writing that prevents Piero from being a glorified buy/sell window, but he does have the unfortunate side-effect of highlighting how under-developed other characters are: The Outsider, architect of the supernatural, giver of dark powers, omnipotent plane-traveller, is a particular disappointment. In the G-Man role he plays, he should be fascinating, quirky, unknowable. In execution he’s a Hollister model who pops up now and again and turns the lights all blue."
Overall I found the review pretentious, and actually gave away too much, but after reading your commentary (which I trust more) these two paragraphs really peess me off. But they've lost several of their best writers over the years and have written some really annoying features and poorly-informed reviews that border on bias, so I'm not that surprised. And I quite liked your usage of the word impressed. :)
It seems like they didn't like the Outsider character in general from what I'm understanding. I liked the voice for the character, he was dark and mysterious just like his character, it was fitting and he didn't sound bored. I'm sorry but John Slattery didn't pull of an outstanding performance. He had the same tone and didn't sound too interested, at least that's what I thought. Piero wasn't that bad of a performance but I wouldn't say it was "skin-crawling". I guess the magazine disagrees with everything that I said about the voice acting lol.
You two, paranoid? Nah, I'd never think that. :D
And J, color me impressed lol.
I might be a little paranoid here, but I think the mag just showed an impressive amount of bias towards that cast. ;)
Some might think that this doesn't really fit in with this group but this is an off topic thread and you do play as a female in this game so here is a trailer for Slender: The Arrival which is something I'm really excited for. The horror freak in me is burning with anticipation
