The lights are on
Want to discuss women in games besides how "hot" they are? Instead of focusing on female assets, we'll be discussing how much females can kick ass and save the day! Whoever you like, let's talk about the positive female heroines in games!
A little birdie told me that Beyond: Two Souls will release this May competing with Grand Theft Auto V (good luck with that). This is exciting news for me because I was impressed with Heavy Rain, so much in fact that I played Fahrenheit. Gameinformer hasn't sounded off on this yet but here is an article from IGN.
Can Ellen Page pull off her first gig has a voice over role? I sure as hell hope so!
The article was updated with Sony's official statement that the date is false. Beyond is just entering its Alpha stage so I don't think we'll be seeing it till maybe September. They snuck that one right from under your nose J! :)
Personally there are too many high-profile releases coming in the beginning of the year, so I'm not complaining. As for Page, I'm pretty confident. She's a good actress and despite her previous inexperience with VO (as we've previously gone on in great detail) I think David Cage and Quantic are one of those developers that wouldn't cast solely on star power, so they must have had a great deal of confidence in her. I know that Cage originally wrote the character with her in mind and coerced her into the project, so she's not just a name they want to bank on. And its a fully mo-capped role like Naughty Dog's work, so she's not just in a booth recording lines, which I can imagine is a massive shock to the system for many a traditional actor. I still think its a harder thing to do, as there are no sets, costumes or even makeup to fall back on, but its closer to moviemaking than traditional booth acting.
Anyway, I adore Heavy Rain so I'm mighty excited by this! :)
Well damn. Looks like I was lied too, disregard the May release folks. A September release actually sounds nice. I don't have a problem with having a lot of games sitting in my collection and deciding which one to play, I'm never just playing one game at a time since I'm constantly buying more games for my systems and I like to replay them. My problem is all the money that I have to spend to get them, I spend a lot of money and games, I don't even wanna know how much I've spent in the last year lol. I don't know how excited I am for this though, I can't wait to hear more from it and I'm sure I'll love it but I need to see more from the game. I'd like to see another trailer, or a short gameplay demo or just learn more from the game in anyway I can.
Surely with this much time to go Sony will release much more marketing material on it, and probably show it off at E3 again next year. Unfortunately though this isn't the kind of game that fairs well with a lot of marketing, because it doesn't have many game-y features and systems the dev can talk about, the main intricacies are in the method they are telling their story, so there's a certain point where promotion will just lead to spoilers.
[EDIT] And I'm unhappy with how little I've been able to spend on games this year. :)
Just from playing Heavy Rain, I became a big fan of Quantic Dream, so I am thrilled for Beyond Two Souls also. I think Ellen Page will do a great job. I've seen her in some films, and in seeing an interview with Cage and Page (HA! I like the sound of that!) he said he envisioned her as Jodie, like Nikolas said. I think the game has so much potential, and even though there isn't too much information out there yet, I can't see myself not playing it.
I know that it's going to have the QTE gameplay like Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit which is a good thing because I like QTEs, they always keep me on my toes and Heavy Rain mastered the art of the QTE. David Cage said that Beyond is going to have more intense QTE segments than Heavy Rain which has me excited because Heavy Rain had some real heart pounding moments. I suggest to anyone who was a fan of Heavy Rain and the wait for Beyond is killing you to check out Fahrenheit, Indigo Prophecy in North America but Fahrenheit is a much cooler sounding title. It had the intriguing story, gameplay, character flip flopping, and the interactive drama like Heavy Rain. Also it had the camera shots like in Heavy Rain.
Apparently the North American Directors Cut is rated AO which makes sense because in order to bring the game to North America with an M rating a few scenes were cut from the game.
That does have a nice ring to it ace. :) I'm really excited for the one line that Wikipedia has on its sparse page for the game: "The game is centered around questions about what happens after death." And it covers an extensive time period for the lead character too, which is always intriguing for me. I actually don't know of many games that do that with their characters, its an element that always excites me about Assassin's Creed but I can't name any others.
Naughty, naughty J! :) But yes, that is what Desmond looks like in 3, although the lighting in that particular shot makes him look weirder than he actually does. And I wouldn't exactly call him a dork, just an ordinary looking guy as far as I'm concerned. ACE! GET OVER HERE! J is getting off topic on a topical thread, what do we do with him?! :)
I'm sorry I'm sorry he just looks...different. He looks funny because that's nothing how he looked in past games. Here, I'll be positive; I love me that Desmond, he is by far my favorite character. He has such a great story, in an already great game. Assassin's Creed is the bes...
I can't finish that sentence, I have to go scrub my tongue...Oh no, I think I'm gonna puke...
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought Desmond looked weird...and what's funny is that he started looking weird in Revelations. Yeah, they messed up an already messed up character...
J, we're signing you up for the AC Fan Club. Once you sign up, you can never leave. Muahah!
(But anyway, yes, I did think he looked weirder in Revelations.. Ezio also.)
Oh and Nikolas, never fear, markus saved the day with a new, relevant topic! :D
See? I'm not the only one, Azure's got my back. Ace, that's not going to happen, I once walked in to the Fan Club to take some of the tasty orderves but they threw rocks at me and forbidden me from ever stepping foot in again.
Ezio didn't look too weird in Revelations, he just looked old. Do you have a problem with old people doing parkour? Well, DO YA?!
And what are you talking about? This is the most relevant and on topic thread I've ever seen.
