Heroines of Video Games Group

Want to discuss women in games besides how "hot" they are? Instead of focusing on female assets, we'll be discussing how much females can kick ass and save the day! Whoever you like, let's talk about the positive female heroines in games!

  • In an attempt to tidy up our future endeavours this thread shall be our multipurpose stop to talk about any new games that pop up and pique the group's interest.  Or until you decide that my plan is a load of bunco and start rioting in the forum streets again.  And what better way to kick it off than with a game nobody's heard about?  I guess that's whole point of the thread, but- HEY!  Don't rain on my self-indulgent parade!

I'm struggling to show you Transistor, the new (second) game from indie dev Supergiant Games, creators of Bastion, the 2011 darling of the world that I never played due to a severe case of crappy PC and offline Xbox. The platforms are still to be announced (or TBD in games media gibberish) but its planned for an early 2014 release, fitting in nicely with the next-gen heat and PS4's focus on indie support.  What's it about?  Naturally details are vague at this early stage (it was just announced today) but its set in a sci-fi city where mysterious assailants are pursuing the protagonist over ownership over an equally mysterious and hopefully more powerful weapon.  Oh, and the protagonist is a redheaded female.  Sort of explains why I'm talking about it here.

In structure its described as an action-RPG that aims to "seamlessly integrate thoughtful strategic planning into a fast-paced action experience, complete with our studio's signature melding of responsive gameplay and rich atmospheric storytelling."  Naturally I had to quote words that professional.  If you haven't played Bastion (like me) but don't fall for that pick up line, some say that that game made them cry, so don't be a doubter!  The announcement came with a matching trailer and website synopsis, which I've linked just a few lines below.  Beware, the art may induce mouth-watering!

  • Sooo... it's been awhile since anyone has passed through here, and even worse, I never came back to this awesome thread Nikolas started after I first read it.

Haha! But I'm finally adding onto it (great idea by the way, especially since we used to go off the rails sometimes).  So to any tumbleweed or lurkers still out there in the great vastness of GIO, Transistor looks pretty neat- especially the sci-fi setting, Red's weapon, and Red herself, of course. That shot of her on the motorcycle was really cool.

Just figured I'd add in this little game too: Contrast.

I was first intrigued by the visual style of the game, but the gameplay or should I say shadowplay, seems awesome! And I'm liking this trend of young female leads too. Sounds like another diverse game with lots of potential.

  • I saw this at PAX East! It was just a brief demo but it still looked pretty cool.

  • I am so excited for both of these games...Unfortunatly they're downloadable only...but eventually I'm sure I'll get around to downloading things...
