  • Hey guys. So I was thinking of ways to get the group more active and involved and such, and this came up, so I'd thought I'd give it a try. If it fails, it was someone elses idea.

So, every Monday I will pose a question to the group. By answering, hopefully we, as a group, can find common interests and become friends and make the community stronger. Think it can't happen? Hannibal and I text each other nearly every day away from GIO. Its completely possible, but unfortunately some effort is required.

You guys can answer the question in the thread it is posted in, or even turn it into a blog if you are so inclined. Remember, the more you elaborate on your response, the more you let us know about yourself.

You say you have a question you'd like to ask the group? Head to the Suggestion Box. Its linked to my phone, so whenever anyone posts there, I'll see it.

For the initial trial run of this idea, I thought I'd stepa away from the world of video games. Everyone listens to music, so the question(s) is...

What is your favorite genre of music? What is your band/singer/rapper/group of choice? What's your favorite album/record?

  • Good idea Jolt!

Let's see, my preferred genre of music is classic rock. I used to really love all music, especially classic rock.  Strangely, when I quit drinking and doing drugs more than 7 years ago, I lost interest in most music, it wasn't until the past year and a half that my tastes returned. I still like all the same crazy 60's and 70's songs though!

Favorite band is The Beatles, have always loved them and of course have many close second favorites. Hell, my spawn is named after Bob Dylan.  My favorite Beatles Album, though cliche, is definitely Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. I can listen to that non stop several times through and not get tired of it, though not necessarily the album that has all my favorite Beatles Songs. SPLHCB is the rare album that has absolutely no songs I skip.

  • This is actually a pretty good idea. I don't know if it will catch on though, but I like it. (You and Hannibal actually TXT each other!? wow. I don't even do that with my friends I've met in real life) Anyway...

Genre-Country. I was born a farmer and it's stuck with me. Band-Little Big Town. They are the best group out there, and they cover non-country songs. Their version of Moves Like Jagger is way better than Maroon 5's. I have no favorite record. I like them all. But if I had to it would be one of LBT's album.

  • Thanks guys. And yes, I can now insult him twice as much in half the time. Its glorious!

I guess I should give this a go, eh?

I literally can listen to anything. If I had to pick, it would be rock. Although, I am a huge Prince fan, and I love the old motown records. But I listen to rock music when I am gaming. Metallica, Godsmack, Slipknot... all are good times. I can go to 50 Cent and Ludacris if I go on a shooting spree in GTA or something though.

As for record, it has to be The Black Album by Metallica. Every song on it is splendid. Its good for rocking out or chilling.

Mojo, you have the same favorite album as my father. That's creepy. And my daughter is named after my wifes favorite singer, Jewel.

  • For me, it's definitely classic rock. The Eagles are my favorite band (by a lot). Don Henley is my favorite singer, and The End of the Innocence is my favorite album, and song.

  • Ha! I stole my dads Eagles Greatest Hits CD before I moved out. Good stuff is on that... matter of fact, its in the cd player of my van.

  • Well, I guess I should answer this. I'm a big Disney fan, so all the Disney music from the movies are stuff I listen to. I guess I've started to become a hipster, cause I don't like today's music. If I do listen to the music, it's from Youtubers who do covers and/or parodies on it. I also listen to a some Christian music too. I guess my favorite album is Change of Scenery by Guest. It's a little bit rock, but still cool. You guys should check out ThePianoGuys and Lindsey Stirling (lindseystomp) on YouTube. Great musicians of great songs.

  • What is your favorite genre of music?

Hmm, I'd have to say hard rock/heavy metal. Though I can go from anything from classical to 1930's blues to Elvis and Linkin Park, and Bone Thugz n Harmony to Bobby Womack, there's just something in the heavier sounding music that inexorably draws me in like a fly to honey. Like for example a newer band called Nightwish, I can't get enough of them.

What is your band/singer/rapper/group of choice?

Tool. Ever since AnotherMatthew showed me some of their music, I've become hoplessly addicted. The music is heavy, the sounds complex, and the lyrics deep. Songs like Lateralus about the spiral shape of DNA and unlocking our hidden potential are what gets me thinking. Plus, they create some truly remarkable things such as a hidden track on their fourth album which you find by mixing three tracks.

    What's your favorite album/record?

For the coherency and diversity of sounds on the album, I'll have to go with Demon Days by Gorillaz. It takes you on a journey through rap, rock, and anything else you can think off all ending in a crescendoing climax. I can't listen to one song off this album anymore, when I turn it on I listen to that bad boy all the way through.

    Now.

  • This is such a tricky question for me, not only because my music tastes are so fluid but it honestly depends on the day and week etc. I'll do the best I can. My favorite genre fluctuates the most: it can be Rock (favorite: anything with Chris Cornell. Than man makes me swoon), Country (Brad Paisley or Keith Urban), Hip Hop (Travie McCoy, Kanye West), or Pop (Katy Perry, Patrick Stump). Most common is probably "Indie Rock." My favorite guy right now is Lazlo Bane (he sings the theme song for Scrubs).

My favorite album, however, would probably have to be The Secret War by Ace Enders. Sure it's only an 8 song EP/demo/acoustic album, but that man covers everything with it. I have never skipped a song listening to it, and I've had it for five years or so.

  • Wow... we are all over the place...

  • My favorite band or group fluctuates between Zepplin (I've got the Swan Song angel tatooed on my back) Jefferson Airplane (Grace Slick's voice was/is amazing), and Bowie.  They all have such a catalogue that I can't choose one.

My musical interests fall all over the place though as I really like Tribe Called Quest, Camp Lo, and Outcast if in the mood for something different.

My favorite album would be Wilco and Billy Bragg's Mermaid Avenue. Between their folksy rock and Bragg's voice, every song has something to offer.  'Way Over Yonder in the Minor Key' and 'Ingrid Bergman' in particular are phenominal.

  • My favorite genre would have to be rock. But I will listen to mostly anything besides rap and country. My favorite rock band is Alter Bridge. Everyone except the lead singer is a former member of Creed. And some of you may know the lead singer Myles Kennedy from his collaboration album with Slash recently. My favorite album of theirs would be AB III. It's their third and best album to date with a mix of hard rock and soft rock that I can't get enough of. My favorite two songs on it would have to be "Slip to the Void" and "Life must go on".

  • I would have never pegged you for a Zepplin guy Asha.

Despite their bashing, I always liked Creed. Their lead singer reminds me of the guy in Underworld that gets the vampire and werewolf mixture.

  • Favorite Genre: Rock n Roll

Favorite Band: Toss up between Pink Floyd and Nirvana (depends on the mood I'm in)

Favorite Album: Toss up between Layla and other assorted love songs, Dark Side of the Moon and Nevermind

Favorite Song: everyone's secret guilt pleasure Call Me Maybe

    haters?

  • Ha! Hilarious.

I heart me some Pink Floyd.
