The lights are on
Here to help new members of the GameInformer Online Community fit in and become active.
Hey all how's it going? First off, I want to welcome any new members who end up reading this.
Welcome to Game Informer Online, you'll have a great time here.
Okay, down to business. This is a good community, and what do good communities normally have? Events. But one of the problems is that not everyone ends up finding out about the event, or they find out to about it after all is said and done. So if I figured this would be a great spot to both drum up attention to these events while also giving new members a one stop location to finding out about and getting involved with this sort of thing for the first time.
So let us start off with one that is real easy to be involved with. You don't need a specific console, you don't need a microphone, you don't need to have certain people friended, heck, you don't even need to be participating at the same time as other people involved. This event was held last year by the GIO RUN group, this event was to promote healthier living. In a sense it was successful though not to many people participated. The event goes on for 6 days, in which participants as much as they can, whether it's a quarter mile a day or 3+ miles a day. It doesn't matter so long as you have a good time while taking part.
Last year prizes were given out, and it seems that the RUN group is going to try to have prizes this year to.
The link above goes to the Run Group page that talks about the event. Though you may not be able to view it if you are not part of the group. If they put out a blog that talks about the event I'll make sure to post it in this thread.
I think I already posted in the RUN forum, but I'll be happy to participate!
Oh, this is great! I saw TurdFurgy plugging it in Twitter, and thought it was a cool idea. I'm down, running is always fun to do. Hopefully after 6 days it'd be enough of a routine that I would continue on with it.
Please post future updates, I'm sure everybody would appreciate it!
Fan-art is a great thing! This was the last I worked on.

Good idea Keyes. Will you update your initial post with links to community events posted here (like the FragFest)?

I was thinking that anyone who has an ear to the ground that hears about an upcoming event could just post it. With a link to the page that it is being talked about on and a quick over view of what it is.
Gv.S don't run all the time you may burn yourself out on it, trust me it has happened to me
Oh, it will? Maybe if I only do it every other day or so... Not a whole lot, but enough to get my exercise. Which in this society and lifestyle, is probably needed :P
If you're thinking about participating in events, keep an eye out for these:
FragFest - "Hosted" by Eyros2k
Team GIO Marathon - "Hosted" by Mojomonkey12
They're real fun. All consoles included. And everyone else, add on if you want.

GvS go for Monday, Wensday, Friday and do cardio and on tuesdays and thursdays do some push ups, sit ups, and squats.
Hey, thanks for the tip hammer! I will definitely try to start to doing that haha
No problem, and the best part is you dont even have to spend money to do it :)
I'm going alonw with the schedule, hammer. Oddly enough, it makes me feel better about myself whenever I get out and do it :P
Probably 'cause I just stay at home and do homework/video games
Good for you GvS. Running is a fun thing to do and can surprise you how quickly you will get in much better shape. Just don't over do it and MAKE SURE TO STRETCH. Try running for about 5 minutes at at the beginning, then doing some stretches before your main run. I have been unable to run this years cross country and beginning of track due to an overly tight tendon that hurts my knee every time I bend my leg. The MOST important part though is HAVING THE RIGHT SHOES. Make sure that you have the correct type of running shoes to support the type of arch you have on your feet. If this was confusing or you have more questions I'm all ears. I'm not a great runner myself, but I am somewhat experienced and have a good idea of what's going on.
It makes me kinda sad to hear you guys talking about normal life that I might never have... :P But it makes me also happy that you take it all positively, not whine about having a workout.
Alright, thanks for all of those tips, as well! I didn't stretch on Monday, and boy did I pay the price on Tuesday. I'm glad I didn't have to run then, haha. I've got some really nice Nike's, get a discount since my uncle designs gold drivers for them. I understand all of it, thank you very much!
