  • In case this wasn't intended as part of the established forums, I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread where members new or old can seek the advise of their more knowledgeable brethren about any aspect of this site or the community that wasn't already answered in a FAQ or Info thread.

I'll start: What are GIO admins or mods doing to increase the length of my day so I can visit here more often?  ; )

  • No, we like people coming up with ideas and starting them out. I'm glad you wanted to have this, it'll help a lot.

  • I have no idea what those admins do in the dark corner of GIO, but they need to start working fast!I need longer days so I can stay on longer, too!

Fan-art is a great thing! This was the last I worked on.

  • I know this issue is being worked on Shootist, other than that I cannot speculate on rumor or whatnot.

Serioulsy though, great idea for a topic!

  • I may just need to be directed somewhere on this site, but I would like some kind of tutorial thing on how to have signatures in posts and add pictures to blogs and things like that.

  • Cloud 9:

I may just need to be directed somewhere on this site, but I would like some kind of tutorial thing on how to have signatures in posts and add pictures to blogs and things like that.

click advanced editor to add pictures to comments, to do so in blogs, look in the window you're currently typing in, and the symbol that looks like a square with a plus in the lower left hand corner is the symbol for add picture.

to put a signature in your posts, at the top of the page (the black dashboard that has your username at the top of the webpage you're on) click settings, and adding a signature should be in the options.

    good luck.

  • Whoa all of a sudden mojo and GvS have sigs? Though God of Irony's is so good it's scary, or is that so scary it's good??

Thanks Sora3Ben and mojo for the support! Glad there might be a place for this kind of topic, and looks like it's already helped!

  • Lol, yeah it has! Irony's advice for signatures helped figure out how to add one! Heck, I didn't even know what they were called...

Fan-art is a great thing! This was the last I worked on.

  • Haha yeah labels can be a mystery. I need to learn how to find one that animates! I so want to be cool like the other grownups!

  • I know that I had always wondered this when I was first starting out, and it'd probably be nice if we could answer the same question for everybody else!

GIO community members who have had the past experience, what does it take to be Blog Herded, Review Herded, or Member Herded?

  • As far as Blog and Review Herded goes, it's something you can't really expect. Just write well and hard, and eventually, you'll get something Herded. When it comes to being Member Herded, you'd want to talk to Saint about that, since he's in charge of that selection. I'm not quite sure what goes into it, but I'm guessing members herded are either randomly chosen or voted by the community.

So, besides that, how'd you like the play Ms. Lincoln?

  • I've never been Blog Herded, but I have been getting Review Herded a few times recently. As a general tip from things I've observed of "herdable" blogs, make sure they're well-written, original, and something you've taken alot of time to develop. It doesn't hurt to plan out your blogs either. Also takes some luck. Not all good blogs are herded, and it's a subjective process, so it shouldn't ever bother you if you don't.  Find the right style and audience, and you'll hopefully reach your goal.

On Reviews, definitely try to find your own voice as a writer when you develop it. Make sure you're informed of the product you're reviewing, and try to form a balance between the objective analysis of its merits and flaws, versus adding some opinions and introspection that will give the reader context. I think it will be much easier as you adapt and develop your skill, to be Review Herded since it's a much more focused system.

On Member Herding, I think those who are Herded are nominated first. It's a very arcane and mysterious process that Saint has mastered.

  • I have a question. I'm in the process of prettying up my profile, and I noticed that most members have a banner type thing at the top of their profiles. It's above the directory for the member where you can choose their blogs, reviews, favorites, etc.

How would I go about adding one of those?
