As for Cadance being one dimensional, I don't think that they could have developed her too much in just one episode, especially since she was not actually there for more than half of it. Shining Armor, ehhh not so much.
Alright, one of the new songs Hasbro released to promote Season 3. There's another song as well, but Hut informed me it's one people will most likely want to keep a surprise.
So, as for this clip, the song isn't the best I've heard, but the animation has definitely improved in the upcoming season, seen most easily in the pan-out shot of Canterlot. Watch it if ya want to get a taste of Season 3, since like me you all are probably dying between lack of new pony or Korra eps.
It looks very promising. The song is OK, but the animation IS very good.

-Celestia can go full on dark magic at any time she wants to. SEND EVERYTHING TO THE MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
-Pinkie has access to night-vision goggles. This could end badly.
-Guards have christian bale batman voices.
-King Sombra can give ponies massive headaches to keep them quiet.
-Celestia has some sort of test prepared for twilight. She never really explained WHY she had to do everything alone.

So, I just finished the season premier episodes. I think they were pretty great, but a step back from last years beginning. I wish they would've explored the main villain a bit more. Instead of him just being one of those 'we need to stop from taking over' kind of guys, I would've liked to see more motive and talk more that "BE MY SLAVES".
Also, Pinkie Pie in a Fluttershy suit. SOOO AWESOME!!!

Ya, I think King Sombra should have been fleshed out more. I liked his design and powers and such, but lack of explanation left him as an empty husk of a character. I enjoyed more Cadance (AKA Best Princess) though!
I feel like they put too much out there than there was time to fully explain all the elements of the episode. It was a good episode, but not on par with The Return of Harmony or A Canterlot Wedding IMO.
Also, how'd you like that Cadance through. Lol, that made my day.
I thought he was gonna show up later.
Maybe. ... I liked the episode.
