  • Well, since the group blog system is completely unuseable, and we have several avid bloggers among us here in the brony group, I was thinking it would be good to have a thread where we can post blogs about ponies! Just specify what blog you are commenting on when you leave a comment, have fun, don't troll or hate, and most importantly, pony!

Here are the currently posted blogs:

  • So we can start posting blogs here now? Sweet! Until we can get it fixed, I suggest the original poster update the first post to include links to all the current blogs in the thread. That way it'll be easier search and re-read specific blogs people might want to read

EDIT: The first post needs to be updated to have the links. Thx

no prob. mray still has to post all blogs though. should i post the GIOBRs as well?

To be honest, the GIOBR has it's own thread so Mray should really post the links and stuff there. I personally wouldn't go to a blog thread to listen to a podcast but that's just me.

But yeah, since the forums have the same editor as the blogs do, we can just post our blogs here, link to the page where it's located on the first post, and then when Mray feels like it, he can quote the blog to get access to all the pics and stuff and just copy/paste it into the group blogosphere. That's how I'd do it anyway.

    SuperKingC77- Why I Love Scootaloo

Well, it would appear its high time I finally explained myself. I'm always singing the praises of a certain orange filly, and I'm sure many of you are confused as to why. Any of you who have been around for a length of time know that I'm not one to simply like something for *** and giggles; there's usually a much deeper, in-depth, or hidden meaning to my seemingly-random quirks when it comes to my preferences. My preference here is no different, I'm not just going to say "i liek scotaloo cuz she cans scoot" or "i liek orange poniez". Also, I will not be hating the other Cutie Mark Crusaders, I love them all and think they are all good characters, I just like Scootaloo better than the other two. In my opinion, Scootaloo is the best Cutie Mark Crusader, and if your interested in knowing why, read on.

First off, I'm just going to get the obvious points out of the way. I think Scootaloo is adorable. In my opinion, she is the second most adorable character after Fluttershy. As a fairly visual person (even I'm not vain enough to call myself an artist), I find her coloration to be one of the best in the show; the orange and magenta contrast beautifully, and manage to meet that perfect shade that is bold and vivid, while still being fairly subdued and not overbearing. Also, she seems to have the same taste in music as me.

As long as you aren't the one singing...

She can do cool tricks on a scooter, but in a world of ponies that can fly and do magic I don't really find that very impressive.

Yeah, but can you do a sonic rainboom?

I take all these things into consideration, and they certainly factor into my opinion, but they are not the primary reasons I like Scootaloo so much. No, the main reasons I like Scootaloo have far more to do with her development as a character than those simple facets of her persona.

Scooting and metal music is great, but they aren't enough on their own.

Firstly, I like her tomboyishness. She shows a disregard for seemingly "girly" things, preferring to instead adopt a "tough girl" type attitude. She feigns disgust at displays of emotion and seems to have an affinity for things that constitute action-filled in the MLP universe, such as her scooter or ziplining.

Looking further into the show, we can also deduce some aspects of her personality from scenes throughout the series. In episodes 1.17 (Stare Master) and 2.1 (The Return of Harmony, Part 1), she's shown to be the only Crusader to have not directly insulted her companions, and in 2.1 she also defends Applebloom when Sweetie Belle points out her grammatical error of the word "victoryful" by responding "what are you, a dictionary?", despite being the target of Applebloom's unprovoked insulting use of the "word" in the first place. In her first appearance in the series (not including the brief scene in the first episode) in episode 1.12 (Call of Cutie), she is the first to speak out and stand up against the mistreatment of Applebloom by Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon. These incedents show me that Scootaloo is quick to stand up for others, but not easily enraged into being insulting, or more simply put; she is brave and bold without being overly-prideful, and has enough of a sense of humor to be able to take insults thrown jokingly in her direction without becoming resentful towards the ones who tease her; these are all character traits I like to think that I myself share with her, that I find very endearing in a character.

Did someone say chicken? lol good one guys.

If we want to look outside of the context of the show, and into aspects of Scootaloo widely accepted by the fan community, we also have to look at her family. If you want to side with the fan community's view, then Scootaloo is an orphan. I honestly doubt this is the cannon family status of Scootaloo, but I believe its rooted in the cannon aspects of her personality.

Ok, but how do you know she has no parents?

Now I'm finally at the aspect of Scootaloo that most endears her to me: she cannot fly.

    lolwut?

No, that wasn't a typo. The thing that most endears Scootaloo to me is that she is flightless. Obviously this alone isn't the full reason though; you have to consider this fact alongside Scootaloo's personality. Despite her physical handicap, which is most likely just a result of her youth (its never really said why this is; other young pegasus are shown being able to fly, but it is unclear to me if Scootaloo is just supposed to be younger than these fillies are, or if there's another reason as to her inability to fly), she apparently has come to idolize Rainbow Dash, which leads me to believe that in her heart, she dreams to one day be able to accomplish something that would seem impossible for a flightless pegasus.

She wants to be able to fly with the best of them. With her idol Rainbow Dash, and presumably with her idols, the Wonderbolts. She continues to chase dreams of future grandeur and adventure that others would call a flightless pegasus misguided and unrealistic to pursue. Its a dream that would seem completely impossible to reach to most people, but that doesn't seem to phase Scootaloo in the least, as she continues to obsess over finding her true destiny, along with the other members of the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

Sometimes Impossible isn't so far-fetched after all. (btw someone remind me to add this to my favorite movies)

Scootaloo is never seen to be deterred from chasing her dreams by her physical shortcomings, and its this never-say-die steadfast determination that completely endears her to me. I have several personal experiences in my life that allow me to relate to this aspect of her, but I think even if i didn't, I would still adore her as the undeterrable underdog chasing dreams as seemingly out of her reach as the clouds she can never reach with the wings that she one day hopes will carry her into the boundless sky, and the ultimate accomplishment of her dreams.

And there you have it; the real reasons I love Scootaloo so much. This is the first blog I've ever written, so I hope it isn't too terribly horrible. I welcome any comments and constructive criticizm (Scootaloo sux isn't constructive criticism Irony). Beyond that, thank you a bunch for reading, and hopefully you now better understand my seeming adoration for the character.

Thanks again for reading, and I hope it wasn't too horrible!

    Scoot Blog

Well that's definitely more than enough reasons. Although I do think that Scootaloo can fly, she just hasn't gone to flight school yet. After all, she goes to an earth pony school (since she was on the field trip in Season 2), and even Fluttershy couldn't fly all that well even in flight school. But yeah, I still understand the wanting to fly and admiration part of it. I just don't think she's disabled.

But other than that, Scoot is pretty cool. I like her (not as much as Cheerilee, but more on that later) and I think she does have a lot of good qualities that you've pointed out. Good blog! Too bad we can't post this stuff to the group blogs...

  • If I'm understanding this right, this is where I should post this. That's right, I have done the nerdiest, most pathetic thing a human male could possibly do: Write a My Little Pony fanfic. I'm leaving my Man Card on the table by the door. The name is scratched off, so feel free to take it if you lost yours or would like another.

This takes place before episode 1 of the first season.

    "Guilty."

The word seemed to echo forever. In this massive hall, everything did. But it was this single word that seemed to taunt her endlessly, ringing in her ears. She looked down to see her hooves, shackled and trembling. Was it fear? Yes, it must be; this was her trial, after all. "The terms of your punishment will be decided in the coming days. For now, you are hereby suspended from your duties and will be detained in one of the cells beneath the castle." She looked up to see her judge. It was the Princess, Celestia, her unmistakable beauty and elegance creating what seemed to be a glow around her. Behind her, to the left, sat a jury of seven ponies, who all seemed to be dressed for the occasion. Their sad, sober expressions a deep contrast to the bright jewelry and brilliant clothing they now wore. As the Princess pronounced the trial over, and as the large, armor-clad guards began to lead her toward the exit, the small pony in shackles realized she had to say something. She had to provide some evidence to prove her innocence. But as she opened her mouth to speak, she found nothing.

In fact, she couldn't remember what she had done.

    Daughters, Part 1

Her cell was not what she had expected. Where she had imagined dirty stone walls, there was concrete, with blank, orange-tinted paper covering. Where she expected an old blanket or thin pile of straw, there was an average - if somewhat firm - single bed. If not for the iron bars keeping her confined, she might be able to imagine this place as her home. It wasn't a hole in the ground to rot in, but a place to live. Somehow, this concerned her even more. She sat on the bed, trying to calm herself. She relfected on what had happened earlier. Why was she on trial? What crime had she commited, that she would be locked away? Through the small, barred window near the ceiling on the back wall she could see that night was falling. As she contemplated asking the guard outside her cell why she had been imprisoned, she became overcome with exhaustion, and when she looked up to find the guard was no longer there, she allowed herself to sleep.

When she awoke, she felt a strange sense of panic. There was something happening. Something she had to do. She lept to her feet, struggling to think of what it was. She started pacing around the cell, racking her brain. That's when she saw it. A mirror, bolted to the wall above a sink in the corner. She had seen the sink when she was brought in, but hadn't noticed the mirror. Had it been there this whole time? It must have been. She ran to it, still trying to remember what it was that was so important. When she looked in the mirror, she was surprised. She had felt so terrible since the trial, she expected to look just as bad. But what she saw was a young, soft-faced earth pony with a coat the lightest shade of blue and a short, sightly messy redish-purple mane. Her eyes, a bright, beautiful green. She stood, examining her features. When she turned, she saw a long, flowing tail. Then, as her eyes followed her tail from its end upward, she saw her cutie mark. She couldn't quite tell what it was. She got closer to the mirror, wishing it could have been just a bit wider. Then, when she had just the right angle, she realized what it was: a ring.

Well, not quite a ring, but something like one. It looked like a milloin little shards of glass, loosely arranged in a circle. In the center, what appeared to be a bright light, or many lights. It was strangest thing she had ever seen. And then, suddenly, a flood of memories came rushing back, as if by some sort of magic. At first, only places, then people, and then, a single name: Rose. Was it hers? If not, whose was it? No, it must have been hers. It felt so familiar, so... comfortable. She could remember faces of other ponies she had met, but only this name. It would work for now, at least. Of course, in this cell, now might mean a very, very long time.

As she stood there, shocked by this sudden revelation, she realized that she should now be able to remember what it was she had been locked down here for. She thought, scanned every memory that was now in a way new to her. Every face on the street, every place she had been, but ultimately found nothing. She was missing what could've been the most important event in her life. It was the most sickening feeling she had ever had. But, fortunately, she now knew that for sure. Just then, she heard footsteps approaching from outside the cell. She turned and saw one of the Canterlot guards walk up to the bars, keys around his hoof. "The Princess wishes to speak to you." He said, in a voice that sounded somewhat uncertain. "I don't..." Rose began, surprised by her own voice, "I don't know why I'm here." The guard paused for a moment, contemplating this. "It seems," he said, "that the Princess is having the same problem."

Normally, that would offend me. But alas, I was pretty terrible at debating when I was a little kid.
