The lights are on
This is the place to hang out with Christians who love gaming. If you are a Christian or an open-minded individual I encourage you to join and stay a while.
Hey guys, I know I'm the noob around here (in more ways than one), but I wanted to bring this up. I know as Christians it is important to be charitable and I'm sure you all do what you can where you can. But I wanted to bring up an event we are doing as a community.
Every year, there is a chairty event called Extra-Life. If you aren't familiar with it, it functions similar to a walk-a-thon where people donate money based on the number of miles you plan to walk or as a flat donation, but this is for marathon gaming. On October 20th, we pledge to game for as close to 24 hours as we can and we try to raise money from our friends, family, coworkers, enemies, selves, monsters under our beds, etc... All of the proceeds go directly to the Childrens Miracle Netwrok hospitals and you can even select the specific hospital you want your donations diverted to.
To top it off, you can join teams and you can compete for bragging rights as a team. So, we have formed Team GIO for the second year. Last year, our small team of raised $2,600 in less than a month. This year, we have nearly 40 members and hope to at least double our donations from last year. The event last year raised over $1.6 Million!!
To top it all off, we have received donations from Take 2 interactive, Double Fine Studios, GIO members and more for prizes that will be used in drawings throughout the process.
Personally, I would love to have you all participate in one way or another, either through playing and raising money or by donating, if possible.
Check out the team website and join at our team site.
Check out the details of the event here.
Finally, we have a Team GIO 2012 Forum to visit and talk with other team members.
I will look into this... Thanks for the tip.
