The lights are on
Welcome to the Game Informer Writer's Guild. This is the group for users who want to get best out of their website experience. This is a great place to learn the trick of blogging, profile editing and more. You can also easily bookmark the guild at http://
Hello there, hopefully you're finding this through my blog post. If you're not though and you've just found it randomly then you're in luck. Because here we have (hopefully) gathered all of the the best writers that GIO has to offer and have made it so that you can find the latest blog posts by all of your favorite writers.
If you're looking to be featured on the top post, all you have to do is ask. All I ask is that if you are going to apply that you take your writing seriously and put some effort into it. Read this article and if you believe you follow those guidelines when blogging then please join. After all, this is for the entire community, and I'm sure that there are many people that are looking forward to your blogs.
Also I ask that you please spread the word of this so that we can get this group to grow and develop (and maybe get a real group of our own eventually). After all the more people that are in the group the more likely they are to read your blogs!
Other than that, have fun with this post. Feel free to post in here any time you have a new blog, or want to get some feedback, or maybe even ideas for a new blog. Hopefully we can take over this forum and turn it into a real writer's guild, for all of GIO.

I think I'm qualified, but I'd rather scour for the users that deserve the attention. If that's alright. Also, I'd actually love some input as to ideas for a blog.

I'd like to be on the list, if that is okay?
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.Push off, and sitting well in order smiteThe sounding furrows; for my purpose holdsTo sail beyond the sunset, and the bathsOf all the western stars, until I die.
Great idea. Let me know what I can do to help.
@ Elisha
Anyone who wants to can be added to the list. I'm really easy going about it. As long as you are putting your passion into writing you're okay in my book.
@ Jack
Sure I'll add you right away.
@ Saint
lol, honestly anything you can do to get the word out there is great. I'm still working on some more ideas, though unfortunately my latest one requires photoshop skill and that I just don't have. So if you could refer me to someone that does I would appreciate it.
@ Everyone else
Also as one last note, if you do any monthly/weekly blogs let me know when you post to join and I'll add that to a list next to your name, linking to your most recent one. This will be seperate from your personal blogs so that you can get your series more exposure.
EDIT: Thanks again. This is a really great idea, and a great way for newcomers and veterans alike to get their blogs out there.
Alright, I just added it to the list. Sorry I forgot about that.
Alright Sign me up.
Maru and Moro agree: Air guitars are awesome
By the way, I'm trying to figure out a way to link the subscribe RSS feeds for each user to this page this way I don't have to manually update it each time there is a new blog by someone. I'm going to need some time to work on that though as I am not very technical with computers. If anyone else figures it out let me know.
Like everyone else has said, a great idea and thanks for putting it together! Should also act as a great way to get to know all of you good folks out there!
Id like to join please? *steps up to line*
No problem Wayne, adding you to the list.
You know, I think a more legit way of doing it is not allowing people to ask - everyone thinks they can write well and what not... but this is a rare case of "perception is context" - if OTHER people think an individual writes well, then I think that's what will make a much stronger list. People who want on and don't see themselves will have an invisible goal and through attaining that goal will generate better contribution.
CAUTION: Shawn's blog increases the risk of intelligence.
Not likely. What you're asking is for an aggregated list of users you indicate to update to a specific location, namely a widget of some sort. I think specifically, your ideal is to have the aggregated list update and display a link to the latest post rather than just notify interested users. GIO is on the Telligent Platform, like WordPress and Joomla but based on the .NET framework instead of SQL and PHP. Additionally, if you're looking to do any back end coding, you wouldn't get user permissions linked to your account to do that given the nature of how embedded this site is into itself. A couple of times I've stumbled into a few "grey" areas, but they don't really lead anywhere and the site figures out user permissions are too low to make any real change to things. When I was active previously I must have emailed Sean Lowrey 5 times a day with some new false-locked gate I passed through.
Still, user permissions at our "member" level only allowus to pull from an RSS feed in theory - it's never happened in practice. I should have a widget with a list of bloggers from Kill Switch, BitMob, and a few other places. I can set the feed in my advanced features, but I can't do anything with it no matter what approach I take at attempting it. So... I'd try and think of a different solution. Having RSS feeds like what you're talking about don't really benefit GIO, they benefit the community in the sense you're wanting to use it, but putting it in place across the board would REALLY suck bandwidth from the site (imagine 20,000 users, each with 5 RSS feeds, mostly from external sites - would the traffic increase or decrease and in that, what would happen to ad revenue? - we are talking about the same company that got busted taking the $50 OnLive coupons from the PC version of Deus EX because On Live competes with an owned competitor)...
I would agree with you on that point about making it so that you have to be nominated, but the way that I see this is that it is for everyone. Provided that the person is an active blogger who is making an honest effort I have no issue adding them to the list because this group and this list is to get the people out there and help with the issues they have. Making the group exclusive to only certain people I feel takes away from that goal and as such I want to limit it as little as possible.
Honestly to me that is why there is Blog Herding and the Community Update. Those two pieces exist to show off the best of the best blogs on a weekly basis and are more for showing off the best bloggers on a consistent basis, and they already do the job of making people strive to be better. Honestly I've heard a lot of people make the comment both on the Update and on Herding about the blogs there inspiring them to be better at writing.
I got you on the programming. Makes sense when you put it that way. Oh well, it would have been nice. Maybe I'll just show off my Blog index and link to that instead (making the name link to the profile, then the blog list, and then showing off the hubs for people that have weekly/monthly blog series). That way it'll require a bit less from me, because I feel if I continue the way I am I'm going to get burned out from it.
