  • I have another question, will there ever be an ignored user list similar to the one on the old forums? There have already been a few people I've been in scrapes with, and it's not always that easy to remember who to steer clear of.

  • Mr.SmashterMeister:

Well, I hope you decide to let us add more people. That would help a lot. As-is, if I want to schedule a new betting match, I have to go and notify everyone who has already bet. (Well, I don't have to, but I promised I would.)

This and being able to create a group sounds like they are things you are looking forward to and can definitely use.  We are already discussing a plethora of updates and changes to the site, I can't see why this would be any different.  We'll go with making it so you can have conversations with multiple people unless something major comes up.

Similar to my last post, we have in the works literally months of changes to the forums.  In fact, overhauling that whole system is priority one as far as site additions/changes go (fixing everything comes first).

We'll tack this on to the requested features and see if it can make the final cut.  If anyone else has any similar ideas, feel free to post them here or in the Suggestion Box thread.

  • Ok, I've got a bad bug.

I went to sign in. I read the stuff about updating my password, and since I haven't logged on since before the new website, I clicked on the "I need a new password" (something like that) button.

I got the e-mail and clicked on the link (this is where the problem shows up). When I clicked it, it sent me to this page:

Now, I wouldn't have too much of a problem with this (after all, I haven't been on the site in forever) except that I'm a Premium member, so I'm blocked off from certain content (mainly articles, right?) that I'm specifically trying to log on right now to access. Also, I find it annoying that e-mails won't go to my primary account at the moment, since I can't access it.

I'm running Firefox v3.0.8 on an iMac running OS 10.5.8. I use Microsoft Entourage 2008 for Mac as my e-mail client.

Also, I think there should be some kind of website support page or thread somewhere-I had no clue where else to go (I don't plan on calling a company at 8PM because my forum account isn't working), and I couldn't find any kind of FAQ or Site Map or anything that could help me find out what I want to know without creating a new user account.

  • i hate being ignored while other people's questions are getting answered posted after my own

When will the developers of games let us actually gamers come up with a creative game idea? The world may never know....

This is not, and I am not, tech support.  I answer questions I have answers to.  I have been looking into your issue for a while, but do not have a resolution yet since the last time I told the system to recalculate points, members lost points.

Yes, while you should have earned points the site went down and that is likely the cause of the issue, but I'm hesitant to punish the many for the problems of the few.

I'm sorry I didn't notify you earlier that I was looking into it.  Honestly, I was hoping that we could just recalculate the points site-wide to fix any issues that any members may have had gaining points while we were down, tell you it was fixed and have your points appear, and move on.  Unfortunately, since I can't say yet how that will affect EVERYONE, I have no answer for you on what we can do.

  • Thank you for your response there Sean, was getting worried there. It is nice to get a response. I know the day that it incurred and it was disappointing that a possible resolution for this hasn't been figured out as of yet. Looking forward to more information when it becomes available. I'm just a newbie on the site and those 120 points lost are a lot when your at my petty level.

  • LittleBigEthan:

I was actually looking to reform some of the old forum cliques. I can definitely wait though, I'm just a bit anxious for it.

If we're only able to create sub-categories for the predefined group sets (that's what it sounds like from Sean's post anyways) I don't think we'll ever have the ability to do that.  Besides, will we even be able to control who can or who can't join a group?  My guess is probably not.  It also doesn't help that many of the veterans of the old forums bailed after the site relaunch.

Depending on how they set up permissions, you can set the group in a number of different ways.  Of course some of it depends on what GI wants to let you be able to do, but here's a basic outline of the options:

Public (Open Membership) - Everyone can read content in your group, it is listed publicly, and any registered user can join it without approval.

Public (Closed Membership) - Everyone can read content in your group, it is listed publicly, and users must be approved before becoming group members.

Private (Listed) - Only members can read content in your group, it is listed publicly (title and description), and users must be approved before becoming group members.

Private (Unlisted) - Only members can read content in your group, it is not listed publicly, and users must be approved before becoming group members.

And the group owner would/should have the ability to kick members, invite users, promote other members to a manage or owner.

Once again, it's up to GI to fix the specifics of what's available, but I don't see why'd they change any of those options.  So, yes, theoretically you'd be able to create a "Veteran's" group from old forum member.  And you'd be able to control who was a member.

You should be able to put in your subscriber number for this new account you are posting with.  Also, you are not yet missing out on any content as while we are in Beta, the site will be wide open.

seiler's response should give you a good idea of the group types, and I was not specifically saying that you could ONLY create sub-groups, I was just seeing if that ability was also missing from our silver members.

I will be working with the guys here to figure out the best way to implement groups, but it may be a short while before I can give you an update on it.

  • I have 100 points and it still states that I am only level 2.  Also, I have subscriber status and I posted a blog and it didn't post in the User Blogs section.  Is it something I'm doing wrong or is it a possible bug?

  • Nevermind, now I'm level 3.  But the second question still stands.

Did you write the blog before you had your subscriber status?  The benefit is not retroactive, so anything before will not start showing up in the user blog section.

  • I just went to the Polls section and voted on the Modern Warfare 2 Controversies poll.

As it was loading my answer, I scrolled down and noticed that the October 27th poll is still open for voting. But when the page refreshed with the status of the Controversies poll, the 27th poll said I had voted for Ratchet and Clank, which I didn't.

I didn't scroll down far enough to do so, I didn't even touch the mouse, and biggest of all I just got to level 5 a few days ago but haven't even visited the Polls section in a week and a half, so there's no way I could've voted for it.

It didn't automatically pick an answer for me in the Game Mode poll, so I don't know what the deal is here, but I know I didn't vote in the 27th poll.
