The lights are on
Please bear with us as we have launched in beta so you may notice a bug or two. The best thing you can do is let us know right here in the Site Feedback Forum. Have a question or comment regarding the new site? This is your place.
Yes, I do read the site feedback. I'm email subscribed to it and I literally read everything that's posted in that group. Yes, I'm aware that there's not that many responses from Sean, Nick, or anyone from the GI staff there. But you know what, sitting here in off topic complaining about it isn't going to get you anywhere at all now is it?
All it will do is annoy the people that are sick and tired of listening to the veterans that stuck around from the old site complain about how much better the good old days were. Either A) get over it, B) keep it to yourself, C) keep such complaints where they belong, or D) move on if you really hate it that much. I don't know what else to say to make it more clear.
Make the most of what we have here. As Demon said, talk is cheap. You want to make this place better, then step up and take action (NOTE: this is directed at everybody). On top of my role here as a mod I've also attempted other things to bring the community a little closer.
Dbull's Corner was an attempt to bring people closer to me, the IRC channel was meant to be a place where people could chill and chat. Now I'll admit that those things weren't huge successes, and even though they weren't as successful as I'd hoped they would be I still put time and effort into them and actually tried doing something.
So, no more complaining, let's see some *** action.
Hear Hear! Is DBulls corner still around?? I remember seeing it, but I dont remember clicking on it.....maybe thats why. Anyways....dont mind me....Im just the tension easer xD or do.
I dont need a GIF-yes Im that awesome.

While I agree with much of what you said DBull, I don't feel like this is a thread longing for the old days like many others have been. Honestly, if I thought it was I'd have been the first telling people to get over it. I just feel he is bringing up a valid point about the tech of these forums just seems archaic by comparison to lithium forums. This has absolutely nothing to do with the community and new members that have come. Honestly I like many of the new members.
I just don't see the point of having my complaints about decisions made by tech people being placed in a section of the site that for the most part goes completely ignored. I have remained fairly silent about the issue for a long time, but there is only so long you can remain silent when promises aren't kept and suggestions and complaints go ignored.
Honestly, if it weren't for my enjoyment of some of the other new features, I would be leaving this site. And to be honest, the option is still looking like a viable option. I just get irritated with how they set this up, and feel like they really could give a *** less about what we think.
Answer me this: what do you hope to accomplish by taking your complaints to a different section of the forums (i.e. Off Topic)? It's even more pointless to complain here where the people who's attention you want seldom (if ever) dwell. At least, I'm assuming that you want their attention since you appear to be challenging them to prove you wrong.
First and foremost the update to the site was not intended as a boost to the forums. Print is becoming less relevant by the minute and GI needed to take the step to keep up with the immediacy of internet information. The GI staff have been very busy in creating, managing, updating and improving the new site ON TOP OF their usual running of the magazine.GI never had blogs or podcasts. There is no comments section on the pages of the magazine.
Since the 2.0 conversion, everything about GI has gotten better - except the forums.
Things with the forums have improved slowly because the forums are not priority one, but they will continue improving.
Pissing and moaning isn't going to make the forums any better. While forum features and updates are out of your hands, you still control the most important part - content, and I have seen very little worthwhile content contributed by the GIO veterans.
tl;dr - whining is the cancer that is killing /ot/
If I could, I'd put it in every section of these forums, but there are rules after all. So, I feel content with Off Topic. If I ever get the time, I'll even do a blog post.
I just don't like being lied to and then ignored. So why not voice my objection where ever I can within the rules established. Why not make it harder to ignore?
Honestly, I think GIO being nominated for a Webby is the worst thing to happen to this site. To me it seems like an excuse for them to do nothing more to improve this site; a reason to say it must be good enough.
The staff at GI navigates this site the same way we do. I'm sure they realize the "navigating" process is not up to par for this place. So it's not hard to believe a change in the forums is on their minds as well. However, this site is still really young guys and it will hopefully be here for many years to come. There's going to be updates and improvements, no doubt about it.
As for Site Feedback, just because a staff member doesn't reply to someone's post does not mean it hasn't been read and noted. Though if you really want to get a reply about something.....annoy the hell out of them about it. You can probably get an answer that way. Keep it nice though of course.

My problem isn't with the content of posts and whether or not there are interesting threads. I just hate how much of hassle it is to navigate the forums. Also with people's avatars being so small I have a hard time recognizing people. On the old site I knew everyone by their avatars. Now it's just a tiny little box in the corner hard to see.
I think GI needs someone like Paul to kinda run the forums, maybe not the technical side(I don't know if he did that), but he was basically the leader of the forums for most of the early years. There isn't really anyone like that here.
Also dbull if you think this doesn't belong here move it to site feedback. Maybe this will get noticed since there are more than a handful of posts.
Fair enough, moved to site feedback. Honestly I'd like to see the lithium forums come back too but these things take time so we'll have to be patient.
We should at least get some kind of update.
I'm sure most stuff does get read, especially in bug feedback. Also, I don't believe theres a ton of technical staff at GI. So for the most part here is what it comes down to, making a site and smoothing out the bugs. TAKES A WHILE. Stuff comes up randomly and that needs to be taken care of on the spot.
So what the forums aren't great? Oh well, I'm sure they're working on it. But y'know, it takes time. Also, when there's a freaking error, have fun looking through code to find where that logic went wrong. Or if it was a person's PC that was the issue. Here's the idea, stop whining about it, something will be done about it. For the meantime, try to contribute.
I don't like being left in the dark about it. Maybe a monthly update on the progress coming along in the programming for the site would be good, and give us at least a glimmer of hope, but other than that, now that Blade has mentioned it, I'm starting to think that GI doesn't give a s*** either...
That isn't to say he's probably right, because of course, GI is busier than ever, but still, I feel kinda neglected.
