  • So I recently devoted about an hour and a half to a blog, and decided to post it. In my excitement, I didn't copy everything to word or otherwise save it. When I posted my blog, this came up: http://www.gameinformer.com/error.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/themes/generic/user/CreateEditUserBlogPost.aspx

Problem is, when I hit the back button, everything was gone and I suffered a minor heart attack. I thought the blog turned out beautifully, and while I liked it a lot, I'm not sure I can force myself to devote yet another hour and a half to redo it. Please, please, please tell me someone can salvage it. If not, it's not the end of the world. I will sulk and moan, but I guess eventually I'll be able to rewrite it.

    Thank you for any help.

So, besides that, how'd you like the play Ms. Lincoln?

  • Unfortunately, this has happened to me as well and the only recourse (that I know of) is to write the blog. After that happened to me, I always write it in MS Word first and then transfer over, no matter how excited I am. Sorry =/

'Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.

  • ;( Man, that sucks. Well, unless anyone else says otherwise, guess I'll have to rewrite it in the future. Problem is, I just hope I can remember most of the wording.

In the future GI, please don't let the back button erase everything. In some other sites I've been to, press back and everything is kept.

  • I know how that feels. There are steps you can take to avoid this in the future though. If you have a compatible browser, try one of these:

    http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/25419

    http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1525

Those scripts can automatically save whatever you type and keep it safe in case you encounter an error when trying to post. You'll need the Greasemonkey extension if you're running Firefox, or just install them normally on Chrome. If you're running Internet Explorer, well, you're really overdue for an upgrade anyway.

  • So if I install one of those on Firefox, let's say the post doesn't go through, and then I go back to the editing stage, everything will still be there?

  • Hunter Clement:

Assuming it's installed correctly, yes, it should all be there or a pop-up window will ask if you want to restore it.

  • I always copy my stuff, and then if it does this all I have to do is past it back in.
