on several posts,bio,comments or whatever i keep seeing this recurring text-like-tick and it's really starting to annoy me because i don't know WHY!
i went through all possible spatial reasons for why it could be doing that.. it isn't between certain words, punctuations, sentence length, or a browser specific cause for why this is happening..
who all has seen this and does anybody have any input on the cause of this..?
sorry if this isn't a more pressing issue on GI but it's somethin' i just really gotta know..

It's an apostrophe not being recognized by the system. You're seeing it in your profile I assume? Things like "Hogan's Heroes" will show up as "Hogan's Heroes".

i figured that originally too.. but at times it showed up when i hadn't typed an apostrophe..same goes for other people because it would be in the middle of a word or used when it's not needed..
It appears in your profile Nick (yours specifically), at times where you have an apostrophe:
"Artistic & Original but settles for RPGs and platformers"
The & is HTML for ampersand (&)
"Fixing stuff, learning about technology i'll never have or have any need to even know."
"i'll" is what you typed or at least meant to. The proper Latin ISO code for " ' " is "’" and in HTML it's "’"
My guess is that something in the page header isn't right... maybe in the doctype, because & IS the correct HTML code for "&", but you shouldn't see it on the live page.
As for '... the "#", that a switch that starts getting into Latin ISO code (sort of like Pantone colors for code monkeys...
The issue is site wide, not just you
as far as the blocking in mid words it's blocking words themselves like i made a post about coc.kroaches and it edited the coc.k part : cockroach

OK, in all seriousness, it is a bug that we are working on where some items in your profile are not decoded after being HTML encoded, so you see raw HTML as text instead of behind the scenes where it belongs.
We've been aware of it since day one, and are anticipating the fix.
Some other sites also have these problems. So it's not just GI.
Myspace even does this from time to time.
