The lights are on
You like Godspeed You Black Emperor, but we prefer Mozart. It doesn't matter because here we all dance to the same tune. Let's all hang out and we can make beautiful music together.
It's hard for me to say what my favorite band is. It is even hard for me to say what my favorite music is either. As a child I played games but not as frequently or as with as much gusto as I am today. So what did I have? I had the daily drive from home to school with my Dad where he would turn on the radio and play classic rock and roll. Nostalgia for me doesn't occur by playing a SNES game or early Playstation era (I never played them!), but music has a soft spot with me.
I never look up classic rock hits that aren't played on the radio, which is a real shame since there are so many! Like all of Billy Joel's Glass House album was pretty good and not just the single. However what I am really into finding now is indie kind of weird rock or hip-hop. I love bands like Local Natives, Bombay Bicycle Club, Passion Pit, Morning Benders, Astro, alt-J, Blue Scholars, Sol, The XX, Head & the Heart, Atmosphere, Childish Gambino, People under the Stairs..etc... I guess I didn't want to make a long post or anything but I was curious for song or artist recommendations that anyone thinks could fit this style of music.
On a complete side note I thought Journey and Fez had the best game soundtracks of the year, easily. Any recommendations of classic SNES era music is also appreciated since I love that chiptune sound (if Astro didn't tip it off).
I will forever recommend to ANYONE looking for music to look up Max Normal. specifically the album "Songs From The Mall"
It's pretty easy to find online. basically, they're a south african rap group, but the album has a huge range of genres. The song that hooked me in was Oh What A Thing"Here's the link.
Did you steal my IPod? Seriously. That's a lot of bands that I like. I would also recommend in terms of weird rock and hip-hop (my two favorite genres.)
Rock: Tokyo Police Club, Imagine Dragons, Minus the Bear, Two Door Cinema Club, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Interpol, The Airborne Toxic Event.... I could go on for a while...
Hip-hop: Lupe Fiasco, Sidewalk Chalk, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Doomtree (they are amazing especially if you like Atmosphere.), Brother Ali, Murs, and Ozomatli.
I hope this helps.
The moment when you know current music is really horrible is when you turn on the radio and you local radio has like 4 stations that play classic rock and classic hits, then the alternative rock station doesn't even really sound the same or play the music any more that you loved so much from them. Sorry current music is horrible I hate it and wish it would just go away. There is only a very select few artists that even catch my attention.
...You do know that the point of "Alternative radio" is that it's supposed to be different from the past right? hate on new music all you want, but if music just went in circles it wouldn't be as great as it is.
There is a difference between being different and sucking, the majority of it sucks. I'm all for quality and great sounding new music but the majority of songs that are new being played on these stations suck bad.
