The lights are on
Have you ever seen that one movie with that dude in it? Chances are someone here has, and they want to talk to you about it. Grab some popcorn and discuss all things relating to the silver screen.
So, I bought this movie (didn't see it in theaters) 2 days ago and was SO psyched to watch it. Beautiful women kicking some serious ass - what's not to love?
Halfway through the movie, I found myself fast-forwarding it to the end just so I could see how it ended. I thought this movie would be an awesome female-empowering-type movie, but only 1 of the girls survived? What the ***? The only good thing about this movie was the stunning visuals. Seriously, just skip to the fighting scenes. They're amazing. Also, the soundtrack is pretty awesome. Emily Browning has a great voice and that one song by Bjork... pure joy to my ears.
So, needless to say, I was very disappointed. I just couldn't get "into" the story. Now I'm all ;(
Have any of you seen it? What did you think?
P.S. sorry if this movie has been discussed already. I'm new here. :]
I did the same thing you did (not going to the theaters and purchasing the Blu-ray), however I enjoyed the movie thoroughly. I thought the story was intriguing, the visuals were impressive, and the actions scenes were stunning. I love how the movie doesn't let you know what is happening in "reality", instead they let you try to determine what is actually going on.
It is as of right now my favorite movie of the year, and that will probably not change, *remembers Captain America*, maybe it will.
Hrmm... I guess I can give the movie another shot and try to sit through the whole thing this time... It's just, the whole whorehouse thing kinda ruins it for me. It makes them seem weak in way. I don't even see why it's even necessary in the film. And I still can't get over the fact that only one girl survived. >[ If this was just an action film with a completely different story, I'd be all for it. Because, seriously, those fighting scenes *o*
Well again we don't know whats going on in reality. From my understanding everything is in Baby Dolls mind. As soon as she get admitted into the insane asylum it switches to the brothel environment. I think that's how she deals with the fact that she is in there, she just imagines everything. And we don't know how many of the girls actually survive. The one girl escapes and then Baby Doll gets lobotomized, so technically they are both still alive. And they only mention at the end of the movie, back in reality, that ONE girl was killed. For all we know all the girls dying was all part of her imagination.
Great visuals. decent enough plot to get me through to the end. reminded me of a female 300. I have to admit that I knew from the beginning what was going on. I hate it when a movie is sooo obvious that I know whats going on from the get go.
Yeah the fight scenes were spectacular but the plot I found to be less engaging
I totally was let down by it. All over the place.

I watched only twenty minutes of it, I found the film to be aptly named. Felt like I got sucker-punched for wasting my life.
