LOTS and LOTS of buzz around the relaunch of Aquaman. Is this the epic return of one of DC's under looked characters? Do we finally have and END to the joke that is Aquaman?
I know, right? I'll have to stop by the old comic shop tomorrow, pick this up, and see how it is for myself. IGN is ablaze with tons of praise for it (not that they're the standard by which to take reviews). :)
My pull list
Vocatus atque non vocatus deus aderit.
I thought the justice league tv show (the recent one with bearded aquaman) was pretty bad f***ing ass, he freaking murdered orm and cut off his own hand, then brave and the bold came out and he was a joke again, I still loved the part with orm hanging by his fingers "brother help me!" "you aren't my brother" then he steps on his hand and orm falls to his death, so cold so awesome
"If you really loved me you'd all kill yourselves right now" -Spider Jerusalem
Haha! I'd forgotten about that until you mentioned it. Good times, indeed.
aquaman was like kratos in that series
still cant get the issue my shop is staying sold out of it
that sucks, everyone kinda under estimated aquaman this time huh?
@ Austin: tfaw.com still has first prints available. Of course, you can just wait for the inevitable subsequent reprints.
@Chaos is Beauty: True for me at least. I'd most recently encountered him in passing during the Brightest Day event when he was tutoring Aqualad. I was impressed by how he kept fighting even after his hand was cut off by Black Manta. Is that a recurring theme with him or something?
no idea, handless aquaman IS cooler than handed aquaman though
that was a cool part in brightest day.i guess i would like for this to pull him out of his slump. Geoff Johns has the ability to do this. I just hope that Geoff doesnt make it stale. When a man has so many other projects going on it might get hard to put the hard work into everything
I just read the 1st issue (my shop has a crap load of them) it was neat, my problem with geoff johns is that he generally relies heavier on dialogue than story, which makes for snappy witty back and forths but lacks substantial depth, the great thing though is that you're so entertained you tend not to notice the story is moving at just above a snails pace, not bashing johns by any means he's managed to make an underwater king whose superpowers are mainly making fish do what he tells them to relatable, he's taken a character who's largely been a joke and made him humble, it's tough to hate a character when everyone he interacts with in the comic already does, Im actually somewhat surprised no ones thought of a portrayal like this before, it just seems so obvious really, this books definitely on my pull list now
just read issue 2 the other day, I really like how the Trenched are a threat seemingly made for someone like aquaman to deal with, they're on his turf and they're killing people, again don't know why something similar hasn't been done before, but I enjoy where things are going
i like it as well i hope that this will branch into a great comic
I really liked the first few issues. #1 was a great first impression with the scene in the diner with the reporter hassling him.
"How does it feel to be everybody's least favorite superhero."
I couldn't help but say "oh snap!"
I felt the ending to the arc felt a little rushed, but that's just me nitpicking, I'm excited to see what aquaman does next, he's also fun in Justice league
