  • So, I've been on GIO for around 3 years now. Ever since I stumbled upon this group, It's been my main point of interest on this website. I'm not sure what the condition of the group was when I joined, but I think it was a heck of a lot more active than it is now. There used to be a lot of active members, but a lot have left. In 2012 and 2013, we had a nice little group of active memebers, Including myself and Queso6p4. Queso deserves a lot of credit for never leaving the group, even when I took a break. But I'm trying to be active again. Anyways, I'm getting sidetracked, I'll try to make this more interesting. We had a nice little active group (shoutout to: Chaos Is Beauty, Queso6p4, FAMESREVENGE, Mr. Exclusive, Cybertronian Assassin, and some more) but it was never very large. So we always tried to raise awareness of the group and start new games, discussions, and projects. At one point, we had assigned jobs and everything. Queso and another member had reviews going up often, and everyone was trying to contribute. I tried to gain ownwership of the group from a mod, but that didn't work out very well. But eventually everyone (besides Queso) left. And that's cool, as I'm sure everyone had personal matters to attend to. But now the group is next to dead. We're in desperate need of some new members, and new ideas and directions for the group to expand in. I have some ideas, and if you do too, feel free to share and discuss. We need a reboot, guys.
  • @Skulldugger: You touch on a number of good points: the fact that we're a comic group on a video games website; life changes and stages that affect our time here, and previous levels of group activity. Thank you for your kind words as well.

All that being said, I have to say I'm not sure of what to do to help foster activity in the group again, especially since I'm personally not keeping up with current books. I figured the impending summer would've drummed up some movie interest, and it very well still could. I think it might be easier to have people who are keeping current to conduct activities that relate to those books, while those who aren't current can mostly deal with back issues and chime in with the typical "older stories were better" line every now and again. :-)

To be honest, I've been out of the loop for almost a year now (i.e. not regularly buying current issues). The last time I stopped by an LCS was in January ish, I'm definitely tending towards trades now as it's both more cost and space effective for me and my long suffering wife.

There are bound to be periods of activity and lull as people's lives do take them down different paths and what have you, but I agree with Skulldugger that it would be nice to have a regular rhythm to the group so that when people do drop in they can engage with other members. I'd also like to extend a thank you to all of the members, especially all of you that stuck around and are still here but just maybe haven't posted in the group for a while. :-)

    My pull list

    Vae Victis.

Vocatus atque non vocatus deus aderit.

  • I think that maybe we just need some new members, really. There's got to be a lot of members of GIO that read comics and either haven't discovered the group or have places at other comic forums. I think we just need to set some goals:

    -Raise group awareness in general

-Clean up the group, by making threads/games/projects and anything to make it easy for new members to find a place to discuss what they're looking for. (This would be a lot easier if someone had ownership so we could utilize the blog, media gallerey, and other group features.)

-Make involvement a priority. Assign jobs to those who want them, make group projects, and maybe start some things. Maybe even a GIO Comics online gaming clan.

    -Be active

Those are my goals for the group. Hopefully we can get the word around and get some new members in here. BrightestDay has contributed a lot today. But yeah, I have high hopes for what we could turn this group into. I think we need to break out of being a sub categorized group into being a good place to come and discuss comics with fellow readers. Hopefully we can achieve these goals.
