I've read the manga of Nabari no Ou from volumes 1-6, and seen a good chunk of the anime. It seems to follow the manga almost exactly. I think there are 14 volumes, so there's no opportunity for fillers or anything, and it's short and sweet.

There's also Trigun. It's not all true to the manga, but I kind of like that. Not that I'm saying that the manga plot is worse, but I like the distinctiveness between them.

If we're talking anime that kept to the manga and just ended early, yeah, that sucks. It's like going to a restaurant and getting served half a meal.

Yeah, I don't think I'd call it hentai though... it's too cartoony. Sucks about Stocking huh? She was my favorite of the two (aside from Brief of course.) Let's just say the series contains sexual/suggestive content. People will have to get over it. I'll never understand why people don't bat-an-eyelash at shounen-style violence but go nuts if there's any suggestive sexual content. America's Victorian sensibilities I'll never get...

BTW Meta, you were totally right about Digimontamers! It's great! I have 10-episodes left to watch, so I don't know how it ends yet... but it may be one of the best seasons in the series... though season one will always have a special place in my heart. Juri was one of my favorite characters and she gets so creepy towards the end with what happens (no spoilers). It's WAY better subbed than dubbed. I'll be moving on to Frontier next.

Most of the time I prefer subbed. I'm finding some things get lost or changed to much in localization/dubbing. My most recent example is Kazu from Digimontamers. The english dub has Kazu kind of come-off as a smartass and not overwhelmingly bright. When I watched the subtitled episodes, Kazu is actually very well spoken, smart and compassionate with a sense of responsibility. Though he's a little outspoken, it's not in a smartass way. Kenta is not so dorky/nerdy in subs vs. dub, and Rika is WAY different sub vs. dub.

It seems to me that characters (especially secondary ones) get overly type-casted in localization and dubbing. For Digimontamers, Takato is brave/the leader, Jenrya is more mature and the voice of reason, Rika is the hothead, Kenta the nerd and Kazu the sidekick. When you watch the anime subbed, all the characters are softer somehow yet still different in their subtleties. Sometimes it feels like the dub is a bit dumbed-down to more clearly define each character (to a dense American audience??). A lot of this for me comes across in the character's tone of voice English vs. Japanese... though it may be that I simply don't get the subtleties of Japanese and I'm missing it. We can't have multiple strong/balanced males and not get confused? Why does every character have to play a "role" so thoroughly in the dub? Kazu really surprised me when I went to subtitles.

Sorry about all the Digimontamers references, it's the most recent dub I came across with this issue, though it was not the first. Has anyone else noticed this about dubbing? I don't know if it's the localization or the dubs... but I'm finding I prefer the subbed method of viewing more. Though I really do enjoy and respect the english voice actors. Some anime I prefer dubbed, because that's how I was first exposed to the title. I'm used to Naota's english dub in FLCL. I like InuYasha's english dub, as well as Edward Elric's in FMA/B. I'm used to english-speaking Ichigo in Bleach... so I guess it varies. But I'll vote mostly for subs. Often the dub seems a little off to me by comparison.

I hope the golden age isn't over either... but everything I read says it ended around 2005 or so.... I think there's just a lot more stuff to dig through to find a really good series. That's partly why I like this group so much... we all watch and can recommend things we liked. To me amazing story is still absolutely possible in anime. I'm more concerned about amazing art. Just looking at the difference between InuYasha and InuYasha Kanketsu-hen makes me a little sad. The amazing work on background and scenery is slowly becoming more digitized and harder. One of the things that made InuYasha and DBZ so great (to me) was the background art.

Although, I still do love the introduction to Stand Alone Complex season 1 and that's all digital! (great story too btw) I kind of things things are getting better in anime because there is so much variety... new styles and mediums give us way more to look at... but also a lot of crap to sift through... but one man's crap is another man's treasure I guess.... Between amazing stories, art, music, opening/closing credits, and those always funny or head-scratching previews... anime has no place to go but up! Hopefully 2012 will show us some really cool stuff... (if not.. I can always throw a DVD in.....)

p.s. I thought Death Note was good.... but Light was way too powerful in that story... he basically had every girl wrapped around his finger.... come on... he's good looking and all... but so manipulative! I did like wondering after taking the death note, how much of Light's actions were really Light, and what was Ryuuku... maybe the death note gave him that extra influence over people... anyway... was a good story...

If it's from Japan, it's anime.

Id do it but only in a full costume. look at my page. Im a cosplayer. actually most serious cosplayers look down on the whole cat ear cosplayers doing that sort of thing.
