which do you guys like more..i personally feel that subtitles is better because you catch the emotion that the director intended alot better than overdubs do...

besides..i don't really mind the goofy anime voices...

Overdubs , sometimes I cant stand japanese voice work, and english voice actors seem to do fairly well most of the time to capture the directors vision. Best voice overs for a show I've seen is Death Note and FMA, way better than the japanese voice work.

I usually prefer subtitles just because the dubs often sound like the voice actors are reading the script for the first time.  If a show has a good dub, like Death Note, Solty Rei, Inuyasha, and FMA, then I'll watch it dubbed.

I /have/ to have subs, not because the English voices are horrible (even though they usually are), but because I prefer to hear the tone and inflection of the lines delivered with the original casted voice actors, not some cheap actors they found on the street to re-dub it.

I agree with must of you, subs do show more emotion. Me I like both, but I need overdubs most of the time. I like to actually see what is going on while the characters are talking. You sometimes miss things when they use subs, like in fights, and I am just to lazy and don't have enough cash to learn how to speak japanese.

I think the main reason I dont like subs is that it takes you away from what is going on in the show, on the screen. Most of the time I'm reading instead of watching what the character's emotions are and what they are doing. It's kinda like a barrier between the anime and the audiance. Rather listen to sub par voice actors then read subs the whole time.

Im telling you if you want a prime example listen to zeros japanese voice compared to the engilsh. The japanese simply pwns by being darker and more cunning and not a high school kids voice.

Except that Zero was a high school kid in the series which actually makes his delivery perfect in comparison with a poorly casted Japanese actor. Think about it, logically do you know any 15 to 17 year old white English kid (remember he is from Britannia) that sounds like barry white? Nah, I didn't think so.

Anyway, I Personally found JYB's delivery just fine for the role, even if it was just his Ichigo voice with a sinister tone. He tends to bring pretty good sense of passion to his roles that I like.  

Moving on, I've said it before and I'll say it again, dubs for me. I agree with what nathan said about taking your attention away from the screen, I want to give my full attention to the action going on screen, especially now that my brain has trouble keeping up with both the action and subtitles due to my stroke.

At the end of the day, I really don't think that the dubs are as bad as most anime fans would like to make you think they are and it appears to me a majority of the complaints are from  fans who don't like the idea of supporting the US anime industry and use it as a slight justification for their continued pirating or viewing of Fan subs.  Now while I say that I don't believe that's the case with everyone but it hearkens to the same group of folks who like to pirate pc games because they are supposedly crap, kinda hypocritical if you ask me.

Actually I've found that most of my beef with dubbed anime comes from the female voice actors.  There are some good ones here and there, but then then there's others that drive me insane.  Now whenever I do get around to watching Code Geass (still haven't done it yet) I'll watch it dubbed because I liked the way they did it.

The only anime I despise watching Subs on is on Dragon Ball Z. The Japanese voiceovers are pale against the English voiceovers in DBZ. I just can not listen to the JPN voices on DBZ becuase almost all the male characters are voiced by chicks, which confounded me.

Ok really tell me which would you fear more. The japanese voice actor behind the mask who delievers a superb va job and would make you think twice before crossing him. or a high school kid in a mask. Zero was meant to be a symbol of the people and one that could help them. not a high school kid with a term paper due.

To answer this question I will reference Naruto. In the original Japanese version subtitled the dialog is very mature, including extensive uses of language by all characters in the series. When it was localized, Naruto started this Believe It crap that he does on the American version of the show and it made me want to throw my TV out of a window.
