The lights are on
Maybe you can't read Japanese, but you don't have to in order to appreciate anime or to hang out here. Talk with others about your favorite manga, movies, and artists.
First of all, I want to say I think Ace's death was neccessary. It's a problem DBZ had a hard time addressing, but characters like Ace just stagnate in the end because they end up without a purpose [think any non-saiyan during the Buu saga]. Think about it, Luffy becomes king of the Pirates, while his older brother is just a subordinate of another pirate group?
Personally, I would have had him die after an epic, Luffy style drawn out battle, but atleast he didn't just get decapitated. Whitebeard definitely upstages him though.
More to the point, the time skip. I'm down on this. I remember thinking that they better do something to change things because of Ace, but not that. I feel like it rolled over the issue. Like an acrobatic trick to avoid character developement. I would have perferred seeing Luffy become darker and go after revenge or something, even if only momentarilly.
how far behind are you?
I'm a Legendary GI member.
535 I believe. Up to the fishman Island, Is that far back?
Meh not really. They just finished that arc about 4 chapters back.
@Romars- I am like you. I wish Luffy would have gotten a more darker side of his already weird personality, but then it wouldn't be the Luffy we know. There are times I have seen that he got darker but he was full on serious fighting. I think the time skip was nice cause it allowed the crew to become stronger in certain ways. And you never know Luffy might go psycho on Teechif they fight again.
I'm loving the new one piece so far, can't wait for the showdown *psuedo spoiler alert* between luffy and smoker (and possibly law...because the current arc has some parts that look like his doing atm)
As for the time skip, it was just general training...but I'll be willing to bet we'll see some flashbacks or references in the future. Oda worked on kenshin after all, and he's been doing one piece since 97. I trust him to do what's best for the story.
So far i'm a bit into the Fishman Island arc as well, haven't watched it in about two months so that when it gets to the fighting scenes i can watch them all without having to wait a week for the next episode :)
He doesn't nessecarily need to be darker, I just wanted to see more depth to his character. At this point, I have no idea how Luffy recooperated. It sounds like he just repressed everything doesn't it?
I don't need the show to get all touchy feely, but give me something more than 'he just trained for two years and he's completely back to normal. Honestly, the dude's coming off as a bit of a sociopath.
whew this weeks chapter was pretty neat. i wont say anything though.
anyone read the new chapter of one piece. weird things are going down
How far is the manga from the anime?
eh its slowy catching up. in the manga they are on the island of ice and fire.
