The lights are on
Maybe you can't read Japanese, but you don't have to in order to appreciate anime or to hang out here. Talk with others about your favorite manga, movies, and artists.
really?? i can't write d-bag??? what is this the 50s??
you wish! (me too) No, Friday and Saturday nights are like their worst ratings nights. Have you ever seen the "numbers game" bumps on Sunday night? They compare the top three most watched shows on Saturday and Sunday night. On Sundays there's usually over 1 million viewers of a show to make it number one; on Saturdays the highest I think I've seen is like half that (maybe 50K or so.) AND anime rarely ever makes the top three list :-( Usually the Boondocks or Family Guy get the most-watched spot at 10:30 or 11:00. From time-to-time Bleach will make the top three (usually midnight airing) and I think Kekkaishi made it once or twice in the top three during it's premier run.
Sundays are by far their biggest night. It's usually when they air all their original programming... though lately they've been having premiers on odd days like Thursdays or something.
[as] Anime Saturdays is sort of a niche crowd (but I love being part of it) I remember a year or two ago they actually eliminated anime entirely on Saturday and just showed their regular lineup... but anime fans complained! It would be awesome if they would just embrace their little crowd of otaku on Saturdays and take a whole different approach to programming on that night.
They should let the fans vote online or something for what animes they'd like to see. I'd love to see them test the market for yaoi (keep dreaming...) I think they've got a small (but devoted) viewership on Saturday and it would be nice if they just embraced it, instead of trying to figure out ways to increase it.
[adult swim] was never even on on Friday or Saturday nights back in the day. It used to be a Sun-Thu gig. Even if I go out, I still tape all my anime that night. I wish they would just embrace the audience and make that night more interactive and fun.
[as] Anime Saturdays and their [as] Original Programming Sunday nites are their two great days I think.
I also wish [as] would revive the whole "Toonami" name and give it to their Sat. night anime block. I always thought it was a funny pun... yet stupid... Toonzai on the CW just isn't the same... although it may not be in good taste, after the March 11 disaster.
(can you tell I have an opinion on all this... lol)
i can very much tell you have an opinion on this i dont think that [as] has control over toonami coming back on. thats up to cartoon network as a whole.
I remember years ago back when toonami was still on Saturday nights, and then [AS] came on after that. Those were the night's you would park your ass in front of the TV from 6 Pm to 3AM, God I miss those nights. Everything good was on then. My favorites on toonami from 6 to 10 were Zoids, Rave Master, 2 or 3 hours of Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Zatch Bell, IGPX, Rurouni Kenshin, and that was just on toonami.
Then [AS] would come on from 10 to 3 with Inuyasth, Outaw Star, Cowboy Bebop with I still watch, Gundam, Evangelion, Eureka Seven, Ghost in the shell, I know I missed some but you get the point. Now there are only two shows that I watch on [AS] every Sat, that's Bleach and Durarara. Sure there have been more shows over the years, such as Code Geass or Death Note. But it's not been the all night thing for a while now. [AS] and cartoon network have really gone down in quality in the last few years and my fear is that it's going to get worse and then there isn't going to be anything good on anymore, and that would suck because that's my only place to watch anime.
I don't know why it did 3 posts, sorry!
I agree! It seems [as] if fine with running Bleach and one other anime. The rest of the night is all re-aired shows (though still anime.) At least they have been running new Bleach consistently for awhile now. I hated it when new episodes would come for like a month and then you'd have to wait another two before they aired more new ones.
I wish I was watching Toonami back then, but I didn't get into anime until 2005 :-(
Though I owe that to [as] and a particularly bad bout with insomnia... I ended up watching FMA ep. 3 (Mother) and really got into it. Then InuYasha got me... and I was sold after FLCL. And I watched them all for the first time on [as]... so it's hard to stay made at them... what with our history and all... hahaha
I totally missed anime at its peak on CN/[as]... bummer... I remember i used to only watch Futurama when it came on in the middle of all that. I think I've probably seen about the last 5-mins. of every Naruto episode though... if that counts for anything....

Just wanted to remind everyone that Durarara! (english dub) re-airs on [adult swim] with Episode 1 this Saturday at 12:30am... this forum got quiet... :(
thanks for keeping this forum alive also you can read translated manga chapters of durarara!! on www.mangahere.com
thanks for the manga site!! Yes, I was hoping there would be bit more feedback on this forum for such a good series... other than its complete awesomeness i mean.... maybe some specifics....
well for specifics this is unlike any other anime i have seen. it doesnt focus on fighting it usually just deals with change and living life. all the endings to the episodes have something to them that are just so well put together and just sound and look really good.
yes, the endings always have some kind of WTF moment that keeps you coming back. with tonight's re-airing from ep 1 (mentioned below) im thinking of trying to leave a few thoughts on each episode every week just to keep the conversation going... everyone else is welcome to join-in too... i wish we had more forums by series on this site.
i will definately be watching the re-runs i'll share which ones are my favorite and the atmosphere i get from them
