Trion Worlds is best known for its MMOs Defiance and Rift, but the studio has just announced a new project that may appeal to fans of the visual style seen in Minecraft. Trove is described as a “free-to-play online adventure RPG,” and presents a dynamically generated game world mixed with handcrafted environments and levels.

Players are meant to play a game in a given generated world for a time, and then move on and play in a new version of the world that might be very different.  Trove encourages construction, exploration, and destructible environments.

The developers of Trove hope to distinguish their new project from Minecraft both because it is free-to-play, but also because they want to have a deeper involvement from their community in the development of the game and its structure. Alpha sign-ups are available now at the game's official site

Take a look at the new trailer, and share your thoughts in the comments. What do you think of Trove? Any interest in participating in the alpha?
