The lights are on
More than 12 years after the release of the original Tropico, publisher Kalypso Media has announced that Tropico 5 is officially slated for some time next year. The newest entry to the long-running city-building series will release for Xbox 360, PC, Mac, and Linux.
Kalypso stated that players will resume the role of El Presidente in Tropico 5, the absolute ruler of the island of Tropico from the last four games. It will be El Presidente’s job, once again, to balance the ever-changing needs of the populace and his governmental bodies as Tropico moves from early colonial times all the way through the 21st century.
For the first time in the history of the series, Tropico 5 will offer competitive and cooperative multiplayer for up to four players. Multiplayer game types will allow players to either face off against each other or share resources.
We don’t have a more specific release date than 2014 as of now, but we do have a first teaser trailer, featuring El Presidente himself, below. The trailer seems to pay homage to Charlie Chaplin’s globe scene from The Great Dictator. Modern Times, an expansion for Tropico 4, is also the name of a 1936 Charlie Chaplin film.
OH MY GOD YES!!! the Tropico series is the best building-based games!! suck it, Sim City! El Presidente is back!! i hope GI covers this well
I liked 4. I might try this out.
Not too surprising, but exciting nonetheless- the Tropico games are generally pretty good. 3 is still my favorite over 4 however...
So will we be able to conquer the world?
I love Tropico!! Hope they expand it way more because that would be even more fun then just being on an island :)
Linux!?!?!? Stop reading this and take my $$$ NOW!!!
I am absolutely stoked for this! I've logged well over 100 hours into Tropico 4.
They must be great Chaplin fans at Kalypso.
