Learn The Basics Of Surviving In Garrett’s World

Eidos Montreal’s Thief arrives at the end of this month, and if you haven’t been following along with its development, this new trailer is for you. The Thief 101 video below introduces players to Garrett’s world, his foes, and his mission.

Thief will offer players a chance to choose their play styles and approaches to the various heists and minor side quests around the city. The title uses a unique control scheme designed to facilitate smoother movement across and between rooftops.

Thief arrives on February 25 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC. For more, check out our most recent preview and our cover story from April 2013.

  • Never played Thief, but I'm actually really looking forward to this.
  • Looking forward to playing this, I do love a good stealth game. This and Garden Warfare will keep me busy for a while.
  • I try to avoid a lot of the in depth coverage on games I already plan on playing, so I haven't seen too much about this, but it seems really similar to Dishonored. Dishonored came up short in a few ways though so I'm hoping this will be what I wanted Dishonored to be.
  • Played thief on the OG Xbox and was really good. Was ahead of its time in graphics and mechanics I think. Look forward to this one a lot. Gonna be a good year for games I think. A lot if new stuff. Coming out. Shouldn't have any trouble with "innovation" this year haha hope rpg's make a nice come back this year

  • Well I'm definitely interested in getting into this series, but I feel like Thief is going to end up being like Assassin's Creed. The only Assassin's Creed game I have really enjoyed is ACIV because it's essentially a pirate game. Never been big on stealth games, though I'm interested enough to give this one a try.     I just had an orgasmic moment; the trailer is ten times better when you watch it while listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6imqCry2wI# Anyway, I'm so happy that this game is looking so good. At first, I was scared that it wasn't going to be as stealthy as the series' pedigree would suggest - I am still a little worried about how it is possible to action through this - but now I'm satisfied enough that I will have something to stave my attention until "MGS V: Ground Zeroes" comes around. For last-gen, sadly ;_;
  • I cannot wait for this game to come out. God, I can't believe its been since OG Xbox that we got the last Thief game. From what I've seen, I don't think this game will disappoint the fans.

  • I was going to avoid this game completely because it sounded like garbage, but they've actually listened to fans to some extent and added a lot of settings that may potentially undo a lot of their awful design decisions and turn it into a passable stealth game when activated. Kind of a backwards way to do things though, as they should be shipping a great stealth game by default and then including optional easy settings for players wanting to water down the experience.
  • I can't wait to get this.

  • I'm so excited for this game! I love the Thief series (yes, even deadly shadows) and I can't wait to dive into this one.

PS Any Thief fans out there should look at "The Dark Mod," a completely free mod of Doom 3 which allows you to play and create fan missions based on the thief series, all with updated graphics and gameplay. I only recently learned of this treasure and am having a great time with it. Plus with it being free, you've nothing to lose!

  • This game looks amazing, but I hate the way they had to include nudity and horrible language to appeal to dorks. It's especially stupid because the original games didn't have an atmosphere like that. They didn't have stupidly inappropriate stuff going on, and they could be very comedic games at times. Now they've got everybody using real world curse words. Why can't everybody use "taffer" as their main curseword like they used to? It just won't feel like Thief if they don't constantly call you a taffer.
  • If the only new-gen difference is visuals, then I will get it soon on my 360...I'm starting to feel the need for a new-gen machine though...

  • I can't wait to give this a shot, but it's definitely not on my "must play immediately" list. Instead, I'll wait a while and then check it out.

  • I know this series came first, this one looks too much like Dishonored to me.
  • I would like my copy now please....if that's not too much to ask. I can't wait to get my hands on this.
  • I haven't been too interested in this game, but that 6 minute gameplay video looks pretty nice.

  • That looks awesome!

  • If it weren't first person, I think I'd be more excited. I want to see everything my character is doing!
  • As a Thief fan, I can't get too excited about this. It looks unbelievably watered down from the originals, even from Deadly Shadows.
  • I'm dying to play this but I'm playing Lords of Shadow 2 first, last PS3 game I'll be purchasing. Going to be hard having Thief on the shelf and not playing it and LOS2 is super long.
