The lights are on
Zenimax Online faces the difficult task of appeasing several different sets of expectations from gamers who come from different games and genres. Read on for how The Elder Scrolls Online aims to appeal to several different fanbases.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
World of Warcraft
Star Wars: The Old Republic
These are just a few elements of The Elder Scrolls Online that should appeal to the fanbases of various games. Fans of the franchise have a lot of questions yet to be answered, like how the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood will work in an MMO setting and how Zenimax Online is going to approximate the rich interactions with objects in the world that we’ve gotten used to since Morrowind. Nonetheless, writing off ESO as “just another MMO” or “WoW with daedra” is doing this ambitious project a grave disservice. This really isn't selling it, It's basically doing just about everything Guild Wars 2 is doing, and does fairly well from what their Betas have told.
However if they are using the Hero engine like SWTOR does, then they better do some major tweaking otherwise they are going to have huge issues with alot of these ideas. The hero engine did not handle large out-door encounters very well at all. If they are aiming to do those types of things the engine is going to need major tweaking and/or overhaul.
The MMO space is getting as crowded as the FPS space...
Interesting concept, but GW2 sounds (and looks) more appealing. Plus, the beta was great from what I played.
Can't wait to play it.
Wow, I'll definitely check it out.
I have mixed feelings about this. Perhaps I'll get it.
As a Mac owner I rarely get the chance to play games on my desktop. Got into WoW for a while and didn't dislike the experience. Is it worth $15 on top of the expensive fee to get up to date with the expansions? Not sure. Definitely planning on playing SWTOR once it's on Mac and The Secret World looks sick. This has my interest because when watching my buddy play Skyrim, all I could think about was how I wanted to get into an MMO. It actually led to me renewing my long expired WoW account for a month, just to shut it down again. I'll definitely be looking for a sale on this one to jump in as soon as I can afford it.
